I disagree. You can't close pandoras box and they will always review every goal now, no matter what other changes they make. We've lost that spontaneous adrenaline forever. They can improve it massively with simple changes like time limits and including offside in clear and obvious but we've lost something special imo and that's never returning. It'll still be ****. To put it another way; there's thousands of Saints fans who will talk for years about the moment Long scored that late goal at Anfield to confirm us reaching the cup final. In years to come it will be "That moment some words popped up on a screen."
Yeah but for balance. As an example, I remember being sat at Stamford Bridge a few years back, we’re 3-2 up going to added time. 95th minute Terry scores whilst stood a good 2-3 yards offside - I was virtually in line with it - but you didn’t have to be. Goal given. Long journey home knowing we’ve been mugged clean off. As was confirmed on MOTD etc. I’d have happily waited 30 seconds for the obvious correct decision to be given.
Nah, nobody will say it was a VAR decision that took the edge off. It’s a winning goal, two celebrations not one. was at Sheff U and United last year and they came back to snatch a draw in last min. Place went mental when McBernie scores. Then when VAR was checked, tension, then the ****ing roof came off the Kop, it only takes away if a goal is disallowed. It’s like that first 5 seconds before you see the lineo’s flag...
The year we got to the CL semi final our last home game was against Man U. An incorrectly ruled out winner from Viduka (4 mins from time) cost us CL qualification for the following season and so our financial demise began. In those days only 3 qualified and Liverpool finished a point above us....oh and it was clear and obvious to anyone, apart from that moron linesman.
And I've seen a blatant wrong offside go against us in a cup final. Still would prefer that than VAR. Completely disagree mate and think the two celebrations thing is bollocks personally. I find more like "YEESSSSSSSS- oh hang on a minute" *Stand around for 3 minutes* "Oh it's a goal, the moment's kind of gone now though." Each to their own. It's clearly wrong to say that nobody would say that though. I don't celebrate goals anymore at a match, I stand there and flick my eyes between ref and screen.
5-0 to Spain and it easily could have been 7 or 8...still 20 mins left as well. You just know Southgate is watching this and thinking how can we do better than Germany, rather than how can we be more like Spain.
Germany will turn it around by next Summer. They almost always are there or there abouts. There's a decent chance we'll play them in the last 16 iirc.
I was reading a book the other day about crime in football and it had a bit about the reported plans to get Duberry and Kelly off the wage bill after relegation. Do you know if there's any truth in it?
Not specifically about those two. It's fairly well documented though that even after we'd shifted players on we were still paying a large proportion of their wages for many years after.
Got back into fiction this year, done 11 since August bank holiday Currently on crime and punishment.
I meant the supposed plans to drug Duberry and have Kelly done over to save their wages. Seemed a tad farfetched to me but you never know, was wondering what the feeling up there was about the validity.
Rumour on the Championship threads that EFL will introduce 5 subs next years for the Championship Might benefit a few clubs in the Championship but not sure I like the idea Would it eventually lead to unlimited subs like in NFL games where players would come on to take a penalty or free kick and then be subbed off again
Thats the way American Football works and The American owners in the Premier League want to change as much as they can in our game
I know that's how it works in Yank land which is why i said it. American owners might want to bring our sport down to the level of theirs but we still have to follow international rules. American soccer still follows our rules despite American owners
