Don't you think we're thin enough on the ground as it is?
Also, did you perhaps miss the "on loan" words? :)

For those who say give Nat And Rhys a chance....sure, what choice do we have, for a couple of months anyway.

However, our expectations of either of them to be top class until the transfer window is a stretch to say the least. Philips is 23 and was deemed not good enough and was on his way out. Williams is simply way too young in this position and while he could develop into something good, it sure as hell won’t be in the next 6 months.

Failure to replace Lovren was a calculated risk that didn’t work out well for us; who could have foreseen the injuries we have had....failure to not replace In January would be a huge mistake.

If Thiago is fit during this period, we might just make it through. Make no mistake, he is pivotal to us now.

they don't need to be top class, they need to show they can cope.

I agree, phillips was never rated but he might show himself to be worth 10million or even 20 mil to the right bidder who wants a big lanky lad who can head the ball. Win/win no?

williams is 19 going on 20 in February. he is inexperienced not too young.

Give them a go. the worst that will happen is we have to buy when the player is available.

the thig is we are not made of money. We actually had 1,2,3, 4,5 CBs in preseason and fabinho so klopp decided (rightly) to spend available funds on tsimikas, thiago and jota. and what buys there are!

don't take this wrong as its not directed at you par se. but we are incredibly greedy in general when it comes to transfers as fans. We won a CL without a LB cover or s decent forward option, we won a league and people talked about the same risks. We can only spread the money so thin.

Our squad is massive really. we can and will cope as best we can until the window opens and it'd be "nice" to have all the options in the world available to buy but the fund have to come from somewhere and the right player has to be available.

I will be perfectly comfortable with phillips playing in the league as I think there's not so many forwards out there who will rip him apart between now and january 1.

    I agree mostly.
However, I think we've lost a bit of speed at the back, and that will mean we have to play a bit deeper (we'll see against Vardy at the weekend). This means the whole team will be a little further back otherwise we can leave too much space between the ranks. Although this isn't a disaster, it does require a change in approach.

And this is why we need to bring in new centre backs. Because we can't rely on VVD and Gomez's pace anymore. As you say, we have to change our approach and set up to accommodate these two youngsters.

Our backs up should effectively be able to slot into the team and play in the same style. This is is why I don't have much concern with Kostas coming in fro Robbo because he's similar in terms of playing style.

So let me just update my LIST on this one.

    lets see.

    1. replace the worlds greatest cb (lovren)
    2. can play left and right side
    3. is tall enough to win any headers
    4. is fast enough to play a high line.

lets just run the search function.

    .....

    ....

    ....

    Ah done.

I do have one on my shortlist, but sadly he is not available right now.

He will be available in April though., goes by the name of Virgil.

being greedy is my prerogative <cheers>

but you are right; it’s easy to play football manager in an armchair when the reality is we might have nothing at all to spend.

I’m not moaning, my posts are purely factual statements and I really hope the two lads step up to the plate and see us through this tricky period.....but we shouldn’t be surprised if they make errors.....the burden of expectation can make or break players...just look at Utd <whistle>

You appear to be arguing with something I haven't actually said.
I fully agree we can't just go out and buy an off the shelf replacement for those we've lost.
All I'm pointing out is that with the injuries we have it's unlikely we can get away with our usual strategy.

We definitely need to adapt now because we don't have the right personnel to play the high line. But we should bring in players who can adapt to the style of play which has been successful for the last 2 years. :)

Upemecano, Konate, Kabak are on the shortlist. The players are there ...

Any reason why you don't want us to sign a CB? I'm curious.

I'm surprised as to why you don't want us to strengthen an area which is significantly depleted.
