The papers do love printing about football players and how they spend their wealth ......surly the better headline would be how this government is spunking up and wasting billions of taxpayers money.......but no let’s chase the footballer.
I’d like to see Saints doing more on this and promoting the New Green Deal we need after Covid Arsenal: Premier League club join UN climate action plan https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54957075
I do wonder to what extent Alex Ferguson has been an influence on MR. Ferguson is a lifelong socialist, like those other managers, each of whom could reasonably lay claim to being " In the top one." Shanks and Cloughie.
This video, although aimed at the USA, seems very relevant to the UK. Worth a listen (and a look because it’s Jennifer Lawrence). https://fb.watch/1O2Hhwx7A6/
Very good - though it is quite an old video and I wonder if any of it had a bearing on removing the orange clown from office? However, I agree - it is relevant (not quite so relevant, but definitely a little) to the U.K. where, clearly, the billionaires, tax avoiders, media tycoons, etc effectively make our laws as we (the people) have little or no say in the political landscape as, until PR comes in, it’s all about electoral borders and seats, not votes. I really hope that Starmer can get together with the Lib Dem’s, Greens, etc and agree to go straight after the current Tory MPs who support this corrupt government by tactical voting. Sadly, there are people in the Labour Party who are too tied up with the past, the ultra-left and, dare I say it, Jeremy Corbyn, and would rather see Starmer fail than take down this government. These people should be kicked out and told to form their own ultra-left party as, until they STFU, we won’t see the end of the Tory stranglehold on the country and we, the people, will just become serfs to the rich and privileged .......
Yes the arguing needs to stop. Corbyn needs to show that he has the well-being of the country in his heart and tell the dissenters to judge Starmer on his electoral manifesto, not on him trying to shape the party into one that will also attract votes from the right. A divided party just gives the Tories 5 more years to destroy any future chance of there ever being any other party in power.
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool old Marxist, but so-called Momentum, like the Militant Tendency of the 80's, are a bloody pain in the arse. If they are so sure that their left wing agenda can win elections they should form their own party and put up candidates, not try to take over a broad based party that is trying to bring some semblance of decency into politics. Unfortunately, like Kinnock before him, Starmer has got to win the internal battle to make Labour fit to fight the Tories. Kinnock ultimately failed and we got Tory-in-Labour-clothing Blair. We don't want a re-run. This is the consensus in my local party and we work hard to keep united, despite differences in approach, and have been rewarded with a Labour Council and excellent Labour MP in what has traditionally been a Tory stronghold. It's not the revolution, comrade, but it's better than the alternative
Well said, that’s spot on. In order to bring about any social change and undo the innumerable disasters of the last 10 years Labour first has to be in power, and to do that they have to win back the centre.
Having read about so many Asian and Pacific countries signing up to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, RCEP, how long will it take for the government to realise that forming these groups, rather than leaving them, makes more economic sense. Economists estimate that this deal could add $200 billion to the annual global economy by 2030, while we are looking at our economy plummeting. https://www.ft.com/content/2dff91bd-ceeb-4567-9f9f-c50b7876adce
Watching a documentary on BBC One on the US election. There was a scene outside a voting centre in Pennsylvania where a democratic voter (wearing a face mask) was going in to vote and was getting dogs abuse from pro-Trump voters who were demanding the count be stopped. I had to laugh when, during an interview with the democrat voter, a republican woman came up to him with and literally just said "blah, blah, blah". He was making intelligent, well thought out points and she makes toddler noises. Sums up the situation perfectly.
Good bit on the mail's Rashford attack. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...shford-a-sinister-attack-on-a-young-black-man
Lin Wood was a fairty well-respected lawyer at one point. At some time during the past few years, the brain rot got him, and now he has a QAnon slogan in his Twitter bio. He's one of the lawyers involved in the GA election suit, and is suggesting that the incredibly Trumpy governor of Georgia should be thrown in prison for fraudulently rigging the election for the Democrats: There are no half-measures. If you buy in, you have to buy in hard.
Great response. Marcus Rashford is one in a million and I only wish more 23 year olds think like he does. It is not a crime to earn millions or want the best for your family. It is a crime to not look after your fellow human beings out of self interest and political oneupmanship IMO.
Can’t wait to see the Daily Fail’s front page, when they see that Marcus Rashford is setting up a book club for children. “Marcus Rashford, wealthy footballer, has a library in one of his houses?” What an inspiration he is. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...FQTvwZierLtW__Nv5ka8eBwl3HvxwO6TsfpEK_HQ46xP8
Corbyn trying to pour oil on troubled waters and bring the party back together. He must have read my comment, on here yesterday. “Last month, I was suspended from the Labour Party, after 54 years’ membership and four and a half years as party leader. On the day I was suspended I gave a broadcast interview to clarify what I had said in response to the EHRC report, and I also made a statement to the party to clear up any confusion about what I had meant, as follows: “The publication of the EHRC report should have been a moment for the Labour Party to come together in a determination to address the shortcomings of the past and work as one to root out antisemitism in our own ranks and wider society. We must never tolerate antisemitism or belittle concerns about it. And that was not my intention in anything I said this week. I regret the pain this issue has caused the Jewish community and would wish to do nothing that would exacerbate or prolong it. To be clear, concerns about antisemitism are neither "exaggerated" nor "overstated". The point I wished to make was that the vast majority of Labour Party members were and remain committed anti-racists deeply opposed to antisemitism. I fully support Keir Starmer’s decision to accept all the EHRC recommendations in full and, in accordance with my own lifelong convictions, will do what I can to help the Party move on, united against antisemitism which has been responsible for so many of history’s greatest crimes against humanity.” I’m grateful to the many thousands of Labour party members, trade unionists, and supporters in Britain and around the world, who have offered their solidarity. I hope this matter is resolved as quickly as possible, so that the party can work together to root out antisemitism and unite to oppose and defeat this deeply damaging Conservative government.”
As Labour are a unionist party they will get zilch in Scotland. Perhaps Labour in Scotland should back another referendum and support independence.
Re Corbyn: Of itself it is a fair statement. May be something along the lines of saying sorry for what happened on his shift and a apology for his knee jerk reaction would have added credibility. But some people are never wrong....
There seems to be a linjk between vile men like Johnson, Pompeo, Frost, Trump, Francois - they are all fat!!! Probably because they are self-indulgent prats.!!!
