Watching the highlights on BBC. They seem to be obsessed with the Irish golfer Rory Mc Ilroy. I know politically N.I. is part of the UK but golf is not politics. Rory has represented Ireland throughout his whole career especially at under age level. The (GUI) Golfing Union of Ireland represents golfers from the whole island. Golf/rugby/hockey/amateur boxing on the island of Ireland have only one association - unlike football which has two separate associations. On a few occasions McIlroy has represented Northern Ireland but never has he represented GB//UK.
Not sure why as golf is an all-Ireland sport like rugby or hockey or boxing. Would the Beeb be obsessed by an Irish International rugby player who played for 9 county Ulster and Ireland, eg Rory Best? Mcilroy has already said he will be representing Ireland at the next Olympics, not because politically that's where his loyalties lie but because morally, it was the GUI who developed him as a youngster.
