The starting point before we appoint another manager is to have a clear identity and long term plan. The manager then needs to fit in to that.

I’d like that to be an attacking possession based style. Control the ball and be on the front foot. That should deliver success and it is a great style to develop and sell to players. A lot of those managers do that but my preference would be Poyet. Paul Cook is probably the safest option in the short term. Knows the league and has proven that he can get promoted and establish a team in the Championship.

Ultimately almost any manager would be better than Parkinson.

I would be really happy if just for once SAFC looked at appointing a manager as part of a wider strategy or project. Appointing somebody with a five year plan in mind both on and off the pitch. Somebody who will look to build an identity and only bring in players who buy in to that identity and desire. For years we have not thought beyond the next three months and have brought in whatever players would agree to sign for us and look where that got us.

At best we are looking at the play offs this season so I'd rather we brought in a progressive younger manager who will actually coach the players and build a team/club ethos. IMO a constant stream of quick fixes has been our downfall and that's why I don't want another 50 something who has been around the block a hundred times and is just looking for the next pay cheque.

I’m sorry, but have I seen people in this thread acting like we have a genuine chance of getting Eddie Howe <laugh><laugh><laugh> Some people are absolutely embarrassing mind, it’s cringeworthy. Let’s just hope no other fans see this thread.

We'd be the biggest and richest club he has ever managed with training facilities he has only ever dreamed about.

It's Eddie Howe we are talking about not Pep Guardiola.

I think it look fairly unanimous that the majority now want Parkinson sacked.

We are in the same position as we were when we sacked Jack Ross I believe. 21 points from 11 games and 6th in the table.

Ross was rightly sacked as it was obvious he'd learnt nothing and we were going backwards under him. That **** show yesterday was every bit as back as Jack's last stand away at Lincoln.

He should be sacked but I fear he'll be given the Doncaster game at least and maybe even Fleetwood at which point I can see the gap being much wider to the top two and his being outside the play offs

I want a manager who plays football that is enjoyable to watch. Possession, playing through midfield and then a bit of urgency in the final 3rd. Every so often this squad of players show they can get it down and move it quickly so I reckon a decent coach would be able to deliver an attractive style of play quickly and then build on it with transfer windows. I wouldnt mind a head coach and dof setup either.

From the list Poyet would be a good fit. He would have a bit of patience too with the standard of player we now have. I really like Cook as well and his teams play good stuff. Either of those and I will be happy.

A silly mention to Russell Martin as well from yesterday. I thought their play was good and they had a clear pattern in possession. Plenty of young coaches like him will have come through with the FA DNA as the basis of their coaching and be nice to see them progress.

FPP were said to be considering approaching Dyche with an offer to pay up his contract and get him at Sunderland. To me that's more unrealistic than hiring an out of work manager, would you call FPP embarrassing and cringeworthy?

I hope the new owners have a tad more ambition than the likes of you.
 
The ideal would be, like Ajax or Barcelona, to establish a clear identity that could be picked up be successive managers. All appointments would have to be familiar with and buy into that identity but it would make changing manager less of an upheaval.
To establish that identity in the first place though, you'd need a long term appointment who could mould that aspect of the club and ingrain the type of culture that is required. That's why the Cowleys would be my choice. Howe might be a suitable alternative although, as pointed out, his later transfer dealings weren't great. Someone like Cook, at 57, is unlikely to be here for the 15 to 20 years that would be required to ingrain that culture, despite being a good manager.

Notts County in league 2. He took Sol Campbell and Schmeichel with him. I think he was DOF but he was attracted by the vision that the club put to him.
 
Mentioned on another thread Arsene Wenger looking for a project DOF he can choose his Manager , already put my letter in to Santa Claus . What a statement of intent that would be to all and sundry . He always held Sunderland fans in high regard so you never know , worth asking the question !
