I really don’t think anyone should resign for that it’s not offensive is it coloured!? He never said the N word ffs
I think there’s a worrying trend now driven often by Twitter etc For people to lose their jobs and livelihoods for something trivial
It wasn't even Twitter that set it all off, he used the word 'coloured' an MP asked if he'd like to apologise and change it; he apologised and gave the explanation why he used it and that should have been the end of it. The world's gone ****ing crazy.
The problem is, he managed to use words that could have caused offence to people of colour, but also LGBT people as well as women, in the same meeting. For someone who is supposed to be in charge of an organisation hot on diversity, it’s really basic stuff and absolutely not good enough. I think rather than having to leave because he caused offence, he had to resign because his position has become untenable. How can he work with diversity groups now?
But what about the rest of his job and responsibilities? He may be vastly experienced, have excellent contacts throughout the game, and have put in decades of hard slog, seeing his organisation through many problematic times, securing great deals for his employers and their members.. Doesn't that count for owt?
I suppose it depends on your perspective and how much you value that over being able to open up the game at the grass roots. My personal opinion is that I’d rather see someone who can work with more groups than the core football community, but I’m sure everyone’s thoughts will differ.
My thoughts are it's a pathetic cave-in by his employers who should have had the balls to withstand the Twitter pile on and the holier than thou Dan Roan. If he was a **** boss and needed culling, do it for the right reasons and say so. If he was OK, but put his foot in his mouth, not intending to offend, then why not put him on gardening leave or summat?
I heard that he had resigned and thought he must have said something really awful . Now I hear that he used the word coloured . Well the world has gone mad . I regularly hear the term coloured being used when people are referring to black / mixed race or Asians . There is so much confusion and it creates a minefield for us whites , yes in the eyes of the liberal lefties only us whites can be racist when it's a small slip of the tongue . Here is a question , Meghan Sussex goes on about being black and a woman of colour but if I had to describe her I would say she was white with maybe a Mediterranean complexion. There I have put my foot in it.
Fair enough. My big issue is if he's getting basic stuff like this wrong, then he clearly isn't the right person for the job of this organisation. What else does he not quite get when it comes to this subject? Suggesting that girls are scared of being hit by a ball really isn't a good look for someone in charge of men's and women's football.
