I always thought 'coloured' was alright until a few months ago.... didn't have a clue myself. Surely it's all about intention rather than the exact words they're saying? If it's clearly not meant to offend, then what's the problem?
And you are correct, the English language is being culturally sub divided.
Only gay people can use certain words to describe other gay people and only BAME can use certain words to describe people of their own ethnicity. If the words are offensive, they are offensive
FULL STOP.
And then there is cultural appropriation, where only black people are allowed to have dreadlocks and similar but they are allowed to have their hair straightened or to wear wigs in a style normally expected to be seen on white people. If such a thing as cultural appropriation exists, it is either
FOR ALL or
NOT AT ALL.
Even rappers/hip hop artists are allowed to use violent, racist, sexist and anti gay rhetoric in their songs.
White people are being asked to make amends for crimes perpetuated hundreds of years ago, but others are not being asked to make amends for crimes committed last week and overwhelmingly against their own kind.
But here is a good starting point, the UK has to stop
ALL religious leaders being allowed to make inflammatory statements about other religions, other races of people and the LGBT community and then hiding behind their religion and the same goes for the followers of those religions.
As I keep saying the rule of law is dying a slow death in the UK and most importantly we have lost the ability to investigate without fear or favour.
PS:- If cultural appropriation is a real thing, start with the white yout, who wanna sound like they is black innit.
