I don't know if the rest of you have noticed, but there is a new function on threads and comments now. I posted a thread on the general chat earlier asking what it is, but I think I've worked it out...

Beneath your avatar you will see "Rep Power" Also, beneath each comment there is 'Star' icon. If you click on this [on some-one else's comment] you can 'approve' or 'disapprove' of the comment. There is even a box there if you wish to comment as to why you approve or disapprove.

I would urge that we all make use of this service as, in time, it will help to distinguish genuine posters from the WUMs

Devo, what does Rep Power allow you to do?

As far as I can tell/guess it allows you to note approval or disapproval of a poster. I would imagine that if a thread or comment of yours gets positive approval/negative disapproval then your "Rep Power" will go up or down accordingly over a period of time. At least this is what I'm guessing. If I'm right then it's some-thing I will make use of. If every-one does so, then six months or so along the line, when the icon is widely used, you would be able to hazzard a guess, by some-one's Rep Power, whether they are a serious poster [who should have a higher number] or a WUM [who should have a lower , or even negative number]

...at least I hope that's the use for it <ok>

Interesting development. You have to spread it about before you can rep the same people again. I'm a gengster repper from Chi south side (Chichester accent not Chicago)

Dev,

Surely this can be abused just as the '1' rating was on the Beeb?

Have a go and you will see how it works Channon, you can only rep somone once then you are told to "spread it about" if you try the same person again. And you are limited to 10 every 24 hours.

I suppose really sad WUMs could disrep at the same rate. Maybe they have included a feature that if you keep disrepping you would lose the abilty or, better still, if you did eg three disreps in a row you would get investigated by the man for being a complete pond dweller.

Reps for you, from the Chi south side massive, innit!

I've just noticed that little green blob, under our members appraisals, suggests that we are on the path to righteousness, or at least being tutored of directions along it. I'm off to find someone who has been lured by Sunset boulevard.

We'll just have to wait and see. We seem to have 'the better posters' on here at the moment [on the Saints and Pompey boards] so thankfully haven't come accross any blatant WUM articles yet; and that is the fraternity that probably abuses the 1 star button on 606.
I'm not sure if an individual can 'target' another poster like that though. I tried to "approve" of some-one's comment yesterday, but because I have already 'approved' of one of their comments I cannot do so again until I have done so for an unspecified number of different people. I would assume the same would apply if you tried to "disapprove" of multiple comments by a single person
