What has that got to do with anything? When I was a kid my family struggled and got by. When I left school I worked my socks off to get a job when there weren't many about. I then went to Uni and uni again over 5 years where I hardly had the funds to eat or pay the extortionate rent. I scarified a lot to then find another job and through my years of working I have had times when my family have had no money but I kept working and sacrificing stuff. A few years of hard working I now live in a nice town in Berkshire. If I can do it so should others. Sorry but people shouldn't knock others because of a few headlines in a paper.

Kudos to you - I've been there and done that too (although not Uni, I spent my youth serving my country). Just because you had the opportunity, doesn't mean that everyone has. My son is the first in my family to go to Uni, and I've had to make some hard choices to get him there, and I hope it's worth it in the end.

I know many others who are not as fortunate as myself, and having lived all over the UK I can see the disparities between the different regions. Many are seeing that the decisions now being made in Westminster are for the few, not the many and are wanting more regionalised governance.

Okay and fair play to you for serving. :emoticon-0148-yes: I was the first in my family not to serve (I joined and didn't enjoy it. lasted 3 months) I was also the first to go to Uni, which by the way was 95% self-funded. Second time was 100%. In life people get breaks and people don't. People achieve and people don't. I wanted to play for QPR as a kid but I wasn't good enough. I wanted to do well in the Army but wasn't good enough. I don't knock others for working hard or because they are better off than me? One of my first Jobs after uni was working and living in Hyde/Manchester I also travelled to Liverpool to work. I have seen some **** areas in my time and I feel for the people living there. However I was fortunate to work with a girl who was from the worst area of Manchester (wherever that was) and she told me how her dad was a drunk and mum was off her face all the time. She had no prospects after school but decided to go out and do something about it. I worked with her for 4 months and she went off somewhere in London to a job that I thought was pretty cool. My point is we may not all get these chances but we shouldn't knock those who have worked hard and done something about it.

Nothing to be proud of. Actually it makes me think that there are more 2222's in this country than I thought? Now money will be spent on the clean up which could have gone to poor children. it bit stupid really.

on the other hand though you could leave the graffiti there as it isn't actually an issue like windows broken and the building getting cold

The headline is right in the context of the article as it is another 'Bash the Tory' campaign. On this occasion the government for the sake of however many millions it would have cost have missed a golden opportunity to show a more 'human' side and rightly have taken flak. As you say if it's right v wrong it's obvious but it seems they are determined to save face and misjudging the public mood on this has clearly damaged them. Once this is done there'll be another campaign about something else following on. It seems this is how politics will be played out in the modern era with social media which has helped polarise opinions towards the extremes. The vast majority of people sit somewhere between the two and deserve a voice in all of this but it doesn't generate headlines for the 24/7 newshounds who must dictate the agenda that suits their slant on things and having two sides at each others throats is the way they like it.

If only there were a credible middle ground party but the LibDems are out with the fairies, Starmer is trying to move towards there but his own party are the biggest handicap in achieving that. Very depressing...

On current form it’s unlikely it would have gone to poor children.

I just enjoyed the Partridge reference but enjoy the moral high ground whilst simultaneously trying to justify the way your Party voted.

That’s not what my comment was but it’s not really the point. I’d argue you’re letting yourself down trying to defend something only a small minority now do simply because it’s your Party doing it.

You can try and make more of it than it is if you want. Frankly IDS deserves to be ripped limb from limb by an angry mob for the misery he’s forced upon people.

Here until Xmas-ish is the plan all being well.

You need to get back before December 31st or you might be stuck on the dark side (cue the Star wars theme). Unless of course that's your plan to try and get an EU passport? Mate they will be cheaper to get than a Boots Covid test in a couple of years.

Not too fussed about that. No border checks until Calais anyway. More likely I’ll be kept out because of borders closing on the way there but if they close the German border I can work around it just about. Can even smash the whole journey in a long day if really necessary. Really nothing to rush back for and it’s beautiful here compared to Brackers in October.

My mate has just invited me out to Germany near Frankfurt. I was thinking of flying over but was worried about travelling with people coughing and stuff. Yeah Germany is fab I was there last year having lunch on the Rhine.

The loony Welsh First Minister has banned the sale of electrical goods, clothes, furniture , bedding, toys and much else as non essential goods during the Welsh lockdown that starts today. Such Covid authoritarianism merely adds to the case against devolution.
