No i didnt you stupid ****, you turn up on here at the start of this bollox and profess to be all knowing and a ****ing expert on the subject,.
What do you do for the nhs, a brain surgeon or a ****ing floor cleaner?
I'll bet youre one of those dopey ****s who wears a mask in a car on your own
Corrected
In these times of infernal conflict it is as well to be accurate in what we say:angel:

Knew this wouldn't end well <laugh>
This prick turns up at the start of this bollox and says he works for the nhs and we have to believe his ****e because he says he's an expert, I'd rather listen to experts who you can actually research and find out if theyre real, this **** is probably at home living with his mum, working from his bedroom for all we know
Dbc comes to mind.

That’s the point, I don’t claim to know everything unlike everyone on twitter who has suddenly become a virologist because they saw Karen post on facebook what her taxi driver told her.

I know how morbidity stats work because it’s what i’m paid to do and for the first time ever, everyone has an opinion on them so I will point out where people are making stuff up. On the other hand I won’t tell epidemiologists how to do their job, i’m really not qualified.

I’m not asking you to believe me mate. I’m asking you to do exactly what you said and research for yourself rather than believing random people off the internet.

You heard “they’re adding flu deaths to the covid deaths”. We did a quick google search and found that was false and now we’re all the more well informed for it :emoticon-0148-yes:

ever used a Hoover? A biro? Sellotape?

People use flu as a generic noun - for anything from a sniffle to a chest infection. because all they have is the symptoms not the cause. Go to your Gp and they don’t know if it’s a virus or bacterial infection but pump you full of antibiotics just in case. If they don’t know from the symptoms, how does the man in the street?

Not everyone’s a virologist, although we all now think we are.

so, yes flu is a catch all term

im not going to dispute your point re the intelligence of the population, just your choice of example to demonstrate it. :emoticon-0105-wink:

I get your point Milky, we’re broadly agreeing. Flu/pneumonia is a catch all term and we quite often don’t know the specific cause and much of the time it’s not that important when we’re comparing pneumonia deaths to heart disease etc. but of course one of the main symptoms of severe covid is pneumonia. Thats why if we’re comparing respiratory deaths to each other its more important to distinguish the cause.

Anyway i’m going to bow out of this discussion for now. I actually think everyone on here raises valid points. I only really dip in when something clearly false but I usually end up wording things over aggressively and causing trouble. (That’s more to do with my frustration at twitter tin hat conspiracy theorists than anyone here) <doh>

Lives v Economy, Lockdown v No lockdown. Half of it is down to opinion and half is unknown at the moment anyway and (no offence guys) but I don’t think we’ll solve the worlds problems on an LUFC forum. Not all of them anyway.

Peace out

I think you’re well down the list for wording things aggressively fella

Personally I think the reality is usually in the middle ground, but social media seems to polarise everyone into extremes... whether on politics, blm, Covid. Confirmation bias is rife.

Always value your posts, don’t be a stranger

Hey, I'm here too.

Again, are you talking about deaths from the virus influenza or the more vague “flu and pneumonia”? you’re definitely quoting the figures for the latter. Either way your theory of them “adding” the deaths doesn’t really make sense. Firstly, even if these deaths were counted from earlier in the year that’s only a few thousand over the spring months. It would hardly make a difference to the total 45,000 or so excess deaths we saw in a few months. Secondly, it doesn’t explain why this year has seen far more excess deaths up until October than any year on record. Or are you suggesting that they only started adding them in October and for some reason the deaths aren’t really rising even though infection rates are?

There are so many cases of those who don’t know anything about a subject don’t realise how little they know and end up shouting louder than those who know where their limits are, hence you end up with Donald “bring light into the body” Trump and Nadine “There’s no such thing as herd immunity or we wouldn’t have chicken pox” Dorries.Morbidity and mortality research is my career so I can probably bring something useful to most conversations on this but if there was on expert on say, T-Cell immunity, I hope i’d realise how stupid i’d look trying to pretend I knew what I was talking about.

By the way, i’m not one of those arguing for an indefinite lockdown, that wouldn’t be my policy at all I just find it fascinating how few people in this country use critical thinking and how many just repeat whatever they’ve heard from whatever echo chamber they spend their time in.
Are you telling me you believe 26k plus people did not die in 2017/18 solely of flu
but you are telling me 45k have died solely of covid?

Why is there such a fear about touching things these days? I still use cash. Are petrol pumps cleaned after every use? Best one has got to be when in a pub and they put drinks on a tray and you have to take them off the tray. How did they get on the tray? Maybe someone with gloves is in charge of that all important job. Door handles are another hazard, surprised there hasn't been a big drive to make them automated everywhere.

Prime example of my above point. You read something that someone made up, and instead of spending all of thirty seconds finding evidence that it’s made up you decided to advertise your gullibility to the world.
You should read what i wrote, i said i was sent a government link that stated...

This will be the last COVID-19 surveillance report, as of 8 October 2020, the information in this report will be published in a combined Weekly flu and COVID-19 Surveillance Report on GOV.UK.

The above is a government statement, maybe they should be more specific, or did Boris, just "make it up"

You seem to think that a charity funded fact checker with a dubious past is the be all and end all

I think that in this country we have far too many mountains and not nearly enough molehills.
Global warming is now a climate catastrophe/emergency, racism is seemingly the biggest problem young, predominantly white, University students have to deal with, Covid is the plague of the century because about 100 people die of it a day.
Can you imagine the hysteria there would be if there was another world war?
Sometimes you just have to deal with **** stuff happening.

No rakes here fella either, I do like the designated raker rule tho, could really piss off one of the players ,rake this rake that, might be a giggle just aiming for the sand.
Also agree with the touching stuff, does the gloved one change gloves every time they pour a drink?
