Sky has ****ed it all mate.

Remember when Clough refused to make (can't remember name) the first £1m player.

Maybe we are just 2 old cloggers, and despise the changes.

Trevor Fancis, I believe that's when they won the European Cup. Yes, I did remember that not look it up.

Cloughie etc will be turning in their graves.
Football was an institution, a way off life for generations. A working mans sport.
Go down the pit, go to the shipyards etc, Saturday comes around, it was the time. Working mans game. Packed terraces, Kids eager for their dads to take them out.
Social bonding at it's best.

Sorry for anyone who disagrees, but this Prem is simply swiping away the way the nation has grown up, with the bond between going to work and relaxing on a Saturday..

Scroll down to United Kingdom and Ireland it makes an interesting read... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay-per-view

It also makes reference to this, I think this might have been something @Tobes mentioned the other day... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PremPlus

To me that demonstrates that PPV is not popular in the UK, hence why I say the bubble will have to burst at some point, because it can't progress any further without PPV, unless a new idea is thought out and accepted by the subscribers.
They can’t squeeze much more out of the U.K. market mate, the PPV during the period grounds are closed will generate buttons for some of those fixtures.

The only way it continues to expand via the current TV model is via the overseas markets.

The big clubs ideas are obvious, they think they can generate their own revenue via internet based PPV or subscriptions, which could be worldwide. I think this model would be doomed to failure as it’d massively skew the playing field and kill the competitive nature of the league that makes it what it is. Clubs seem to be somewhat oblivious to this, and seem to think their own club is the reason people tune in and pay. Only if they were winning 6-0 every week they’d soon realise that it isn’t

So back full circle. Where do new players come from?

You buy an ex league one player, who spends a few seasons at a club like Leicester and get mugged off for £80M. Anyone know how things went for England tonight? :bandit:
What when there is no league 1?

Government I believe have already placed a shot across the bow of the PremierSHIP, more or less get your house in order or will do it for you.
It may not matter mate. Some clubs will go soon.

Probably. If it were me, I would restructure certainly L2 and the National League or whatever it's called these days. I think it should be more regional based, North/South divide. I certainly would prefer to see more local clubs then clubs hundreds of miles away when down in those leagues. That also reduces the cost of travel or any overnight stay for clubs out of its finances. What I'm saying is I'd prefer to watch the Gills against Dover (NL), then against Salford (L2) on a Tuesday night.

Without games like those, the roots of football, there is no game

Hopefully one day it will be Man U and Liverpool.

No mate, it will not happen and I don't want it to happen. If it happens, I'd want it to be in the FA Cup, straight knock-out game. I've seen half the Premiership club names play in passing at some point in my life anyway.

Yeah very similar to us back in '09 in that the infrastructure is all there ready to go (stadium, academy etc) but the club has been grossly mismanaged leading to its lowly position.

Our owner bought us and paid all our debts off for circa £30m. 80% of it was sold less than a decade later for £180m.
Unfortunately nobody come calling for us and we ended up with a buffoon from Eastleigh. Our old owner actually wiped all the debts on his way out for us so we'd be in a strong financial position. That was the perfect chance then for somebody to come in with a few quid and go at it hard. Our owner can't afford to fund the club himself and I'm worried about the future of the club the longer he stays here when there's very little revenue coming in.
