Ignore them mate, pieguts troublemaker When Scally took over the club for £1 or 1 peppercorn whatever it was, he put us through a stadium rebuild, which was being paid for by On-Digital/ITV Digital, whatever the name was at the time. However, they went bust and we got left with £10M to pay. Hence why our away stand is scaffolding. Anyhow then the finacial crash happened, and as I don't fancy getting sued....erm....£10M debt, er, I don't what happened to it. So hopefully with the economy fooked, this £1.5M can be scrubbed out as well by the tooth fairy.
The last figures I can find for the total turnover of League 1 is for the 17/18 season, but the entire turnover was £146m that season, which was the same as the previous season, so I doubt it’s risen much since. Scally said their total turnover was usually circa £6m btw, so by my maths that looks fairly average for that division. L2 was £91m, so both divisions total turnover was £237m. The £1.5m shortfall is 25% of the Gills total annual turnover, so mirrored across both leagues that equates to circa £60m.
Not been on there for beards. but I’d wager that the hardcore Kopites from Exeter are fuming about our Denise demanding their Sherman’s apologise. I’d also not be surprised if a fair chunk of them thought the whole idea was sound, Socialist FC though.....
Plenty of Astro’s around on RAWK then, shocked. Tbf I’ve seen some half arsed defence of their stance, which is likely just the cult loyalty kicking in, but no one barring Captain Plastic has outright backed it on here I don’t think.
So 60% of this money that us bottom league clubs will be handed, is going to be in the form of a loan? I assume this loan is 0% interest otherwise it's a ****ing farce.
It don't appear to have gone down well with my lot. I think because it's being given as an interest free loan, but the supporters are seeing it as buying 48 clubs, for money they've actually got to pay back at some point. Yes it's a bail out, but at what cost to those clubs in the future. My club will never afford to pay back a loan.
Cheers fella, it would be good if the likes of Sunderland, Ipswich, Charlton and Pompey could take full hand out as loans and allow the more financially stricken clubs to take their payments as mostly grants with only a small percentage to pay back as a loan. I don't think it will happen, though.
It would although those clubs will be losing considerably more in revenue presumably. Particularly you lot. Definitely need to see more detail about it to decide how good it all is.
A loan should be a last ditch effort for a club going under. The vast majority of clubs in league one and two aren't under immediate threat. This isn't a hand-out like it's being presented, it's buying early votes with what is to come and the prem get the majority of their 'hand-out' back to them over time.
