I see Sweden have been proved right again. No lockdown all schools and bars and cafes and businesses left open, a thriving economy thanks to everyone else closing down.

Sweedens a whole different scenario, not lots of big cities to spread the virus, it's not rampaging through the villages and countryside here either.

Sweden also has more than 10x the death rate of neighbouring Finland and Norway and by comparison them their economy has suffered as a result. I'm not saying Sweden got it wrong but if you compare like for like they've proper ****ed it compared to Norway, Finland, Denmark etc
Hy I always deal in factual data. Sweden is nothing like Finland, Denmark and Norway demographically. Sweden is swamped with migrants in Malmo and Oslo and has areas that have not had any virus. Swedens population is exactly the same as Belgium and so should be compared to them, oh but Belgium have had more deaths per million than anywhere in Europe. Sweden is the only country in the Northern Hemisphere that didnt lock down and the only country that produced a surplus for its exchequer. Very telling

I think that all goes to show that there are far too many variables for any comparisons to be great. I'm not sure about the Belgium comparison though. Norway had large levels of immigration and is far closer to the demographics of Sweden than Belgium is. Even Denmark is around 15% 1st or 2nd generation immigrant with the most common immigrants coming from Turkey and Syria.

Theres a good comparison here that puts Norway's indigenous population at around 81% compared to Sweden's 83% (rounded). The percentage of Syrian and Iraqi immigrants is slightly higher Sweden but less than 1% of the entire populations difference and the urban population of both countries is 82.6% and 87.7% compared to Belgiums 98%.

Can't really compair Sweden to Belgium,Belgium is about 1/50 th the size of Sweden and very rural, it's like comparing a dozen villages with Liverpool. Can't be done.

Rather than listen to the bollox on the main news media which is really all about scaring the crap out of people, I like to look at data and the data used in this video is the same data the government use and every government in Europe. How you interpret that data is key, but if you start wrong and make cock ups its tempting to carry on so you dont look stupid.

People are typically ‘the end is nigh’ or a Denier on this topic... the comments on this thread have tended to back that up.

I’ve probably leant more to the ‘it’s just a flu’ camp, but Usually see shades of grey in life. There’s a lot in the above video that I agree with and have argued similar points myself, but there’s some valid counter arguments.

I found this critique of the above video. The guy is US-based but seems amongst the most balanced commentators on the topic.

A big problem with the Sweden view, is they are doing very few tests, so they don't pick up many cases of Covid, so don't put deaths down to covid, I know other countries are doing the opposite, but if you believe anyone is trying to make it look like more are dying than are, then your a fool, to do that is the best way for a government to lose power.

Uk cases per/ million 9339
Sweden cases per/million 10016
Uk deaths per/million 633
Sweden deaths per/million 583
Uk tests per/million 412659
Sweden tests per/million 176859

our figures are not great but don’t understand why people are holding Sweden up as a glowing example

The UK are counting people with flu in their stats,
I wonder why,
Could be something to do with Vallance having a vested interest in a pharma company, Whitty on the WHO payroll and matt hancock with a 75%stake in a pharma company, just need to find out whats in it for that fat useless floppy haired **** Boris

Anyway a bit of good news(for me anyway)
Daughter and 2 grand daughters recovered and son-in-law well on his way to recovery but it has been a worrying time in particular daughter and son-in-law
Would not wish it on anyone
Good news mate, but Dr Olof did tell you a few weeks ago:emoticon-0105-wink:

With regard to the Matt Hancock claim this has been fact checked and found to be incorrect
Whitty on the WHO payroll I don’t see anything wrong with this
With regards to Vallance it depends when his vested interest started

So why doesnt Whitty take note of what the WHO are now saying that lockdowns dont work?
