Arsenal look increasingly likely to sign Thomas Partey today after informing La Liga that they will meet his release clause of about £45 million.
Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of former Stoke City forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, with Douglas Costa also joining the European champions on loan from Juventus. Tiemoué Bakayoko has joined Napoli on loan from Chelsea. Hertha Berlin have announced the loan signing of Matteo Guendouzi from Arsenal.
£40k for Ken Wagstaff from Mansfield back in 1964/65 was a colossal fee at the time. Probably more then all the players Mansfield had sold in their entire history and the the cost of Field Mill in its day thrown in. First Division clubs were not spending that sort of money on transfer fees and Hull City from Div 3 did it three times in no time at all. The newspapers were calling us The Bank of England Club in those days.
It's equivalent to £655,000 in todays money. At that time the record UK transfer fee was £115,000 for the sale of Denis Law.
How nice is it to be having such a quiet deadline day knowing we have done great business that wasn't rushed or last minute! Although I am kind off missing the final day excitement.
True, that purchase from Torino by Man United was in '62. (Dunno what the present value after inflation that would be for that fee), but there were a lot more transfers in that era which were far above that paid by City for Waggy, Houghton & Butler (All 40k), despite what Urika may be suggesting. Yes, we paid big money for the 3 that became superb acquisitions in that league between '64- '68, but there were much higher prices paid by 1st Division teams in that period. e.g. Frank McLintock, Leicester to Arsenal '64 fo 80k.
