Nah. Because I am sure many who back this, would also be up in arms when a loved on is taken away and never seen again.

I have stayed in, isolated and given away a six months to protect myself and others.

 

will give GP a few days and I FB they are telling me nov then I will do same. Work had even contacted me as they are offering it to all staff this year. But my shambles of a GP!

 

Out of interest, does your first paragraph work the other way round, in that people who are wanting strict lockdowns would be up in arms if a young relatives cancer diagnosis was fatally missed?

I really don't see why we should keep locking everyone down for years. Is it possible that it's causing more harm than good?

I'm not suggesting a free for all btw, I think we should certainly be protecting people in the most vulnerable category like yourself the best we can.

 

In an allegedly highly developed country we should be capable of covering both bases but maybe that’s hoping too much.

 

I think that’s exactly what the article - and by extension, probably Libby - is saying. We don’t have to stop the world to protect the vulnerable, or we shouldn’t have to.

Does the mental heath of those isolation not matter, my hospital follow ups have been restricted (transplant, skin cancer, bone density)

some suggested this was a Tory eugenics policy time cull the sick and old!! But the sick and old is who this was designed to help(well those without a natural immunity/ability to cope with it)

The section of h thy ex population who said we should have locked down, stopped Cheltenham/football earlier have now had enough.

I don’t know the solution, but with half term approaches I can see what’s coming.

I'm definitely in agreement that we should have locked down a lot sooner, especially in regards to airports etc. and ironically the failure to do so is why that now the attempts are a bit futile.

The virus is here to stay now and is never going away. No matter what we do.

Of course the MH of those isolating matters, but they're not the only group who have suffered in that regard during this. We're about to see thousands of job losses and evictions which aren't gonna help there either.

I personally think those isolating should have an element of choice about it, my old man is in this category and says he doesn't want to never see any of his loved ones scared of a virus when he could die from something else at any point. Doesn't mean he's not careful of course.

You're the right that there's no easy answer here. I really don't think that having a lockdown every few months for the next x amount of years is the way to go though, and will likely cause more harm than good.

 

Completely agree with the above, and with the BBC article.

The government should be putting money towards supporting those who genuinely need to shield, not star rocket testing or whatever bollocks he called it.

Then everyone else can make up their own minds regarding risk and get on with it. As you might be aware, I was sent a shielding letter. I reviewed it and decided to carry on working, I will do again if I receive another. It's my choice and it should be everyone's choice as to what risk they are prepared to take.

Was going to visit my mother last weekend but didn't go as she is just in an elevated measures area, in Bolton borough. She's not seen my kids through all this and Christmas is now at risk. She's 77 and mildly asthmatic but knows the risks, knows what precautions to take and knows how to manage this. She does not want to hide indoors ad infinitum as this virus is only going to be out there waiting.

We need to deal with it and live with it. Herd immunity is probably the wrong term, but herd resistance is valid. The vast majority or us are not at risk of this thing.

Those that need to shield, do so and be supported. And I don't mean self inflicted gargantuan fat ****s.

 

The Tory eugenics claim was based on three well-documented pieces of evidence:

1. they had to fire an advisor hired by Cummings who had publicly posted his support for eugenics
2. Cummings' advice to the PM was quoted as "protect the economy and if some pensioners die then so be it"
3. Boris Johnson went on national TV and told the public we should just "take it on the chin"

The reason the government performed a u-turn on it is because of the backlash from nearly every scientist in the world saying that herd immunity would fail and kill millions of people in the process.

 

Herd immunity or resistance is impossible without a vaccine. It's not possible to have enough people exposed to it naturally unless you're also willing to accept a massive death toll. Plus if you survive and don't have any long term problems the antibodies disappear after 3 months anyway.

 

Bit hard on the fat ****s there tbh.

This popped up on my news feed last night, surprised it's not been picked up by the usual news channels, seems promising.

Boris Johnson just confirmed that even after the public put £100 billion into his Moonshot scam they'll still be forced to pay for tests

 

His statements todays were a bit 'meh'.
