True, weve bought from the level below a few times, but we've took alot of gambles as well. Funny thing to occur to me, that I just coudnt recall making a signing of thiagos level.
Yeh exactly, didn't think about til today but I cannot think of anyone we've bought since I've watched us from the 90s that was considered by the footballing world/media/fellow pros as world class.
Just read that Thiago wil cost an initial £20m spread over the four year contract (so £5m per season, some loans cost more than that!) with a further £6m should we win the PL and CL during those four years #bargain Who the **** is Daniel Levy
Mascherano I will never forget telling my lad during the World Cup "Argentina have a midfielder that we should be all over, he's a monster and would dominate this league" A few weeks later he turned up at West Ham ffs
Tevez and Mascherano weren't established worlds stars, they were a similar level to Torres and Suarez when they arrived in England
You know what he had crossed my mind. I guess he was tbh. Does it count if he was desperate to get out of West ham
Mash was one on my list, but the oddness of the west ham transfers marred his signing. Just goes to show wolves arnt doing anything new
Can't be world class unless you've done it at the top level. Outside Europe may as well be Sunday league
Harsh. Harry kewell was a brilliant player. Just injuries did him in. I remember when we signed Him and was prob one of most excited I’d been about a transfer. Maybe because at that time I played similar position as a kid so was someone to look up to.
Generwlly we don’t really sign world class players. Mainly because 1, we haven’t been able to afford it, and 2, we haven’t been good enough to attract that top level. we’ve had to sign younger players and try develop them. Players that have turned very good like alonso, mascherano, Torres, suarez, vvd, alisson, Salah, mane etc... Genuinely think Thiago is probably the one world class we’ve signed in last 20 odd years but it’s only because he’s at end of contract and 29. I don’t think if he was 25 and middle of contract we’d be in for him because he’d cost 80m plus
No don't get me wrong I remember being really excited about kewell at the time myself but his time with us was so disappointing by the end I see him as a massive flop, probably because of the expectation. And that just made me think of Ryan babel
