Any as long as it was bigger than the skunks. Hopefully we will have to extend in the next half decade.
I think the stadium size is right for us, based on where we hope to return to in the next few years. Aye, it’s a bit of a negative at the minute but we were win excess of 40k or more for many years in a row.
If we ever got back to attacking football and the top half of the top flight we could extend further but that's a long, long way away at present
Aye we definitely could. We rarely see a full away end due to geography but the demand has been shown several times when we’ve been half decent, be though of the roof if we were ever real world decent.
Anyone know what the plan would be for the SoL if we ever needed to extend again? Roker End or East stand next?
It was designed in such a way that same could be done on the opposite side to take it to 60k I think. Whether it would be that easy 20 years on I don’t know there’d be a lot more work on the structure than the original extension I’d imagine.
Jumping from 48k to 60k in one go is a canny bit mind if they have to do east and Roker at the same time. We would have to be top 8 in PL for a few years to even consider it.
Must be quite a lot more than 60k if one corner and the north stand added 6k and filling it all in would mean it'll be three corners, the South stand and the East stand which is quite a bit wider than the north
63k according to Wiki. But it also states on there that "some believe it can be expanded to 84k" Can't say I've ever seen 84k mentioned anywhere. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_of_Light
Crazy thread. We don't need a new ground and the current capacity is adequate. If we ever needed more we have a stadium which upgrades on the cheep.
As soon as we extended the North Stand, Murray put in a planning application for the South stand. The capacity would be 55,000. Can anyone see us filling that every week? Would we have to be a top 6 team or top 4?
