Evening, all. Why, oh why, I say why, oh why, does the Isle need 5 Flat meetings, with 39 races contained within, of the morrow?!? Answers on a postcard please to the usual address…

On a more positive footing I’m absolutely delighted to see my favourite type of heat (sellers and claimers) back on the old agenda. A real step in the right direction, methinks.

    CAWTHORNE 14/1 Southwell 4:00
Only putting this up as its a god awful race and something has to win it. This horse seems to have been struggling to get home which is surprising for a point winner. Well the Southwell two miles is about as easy as it gets and not many better then Brennan to do the job. Has a fair chance at decent odds despite the form figures.

    Newcastle

    12:50 One One Seven

CD winner who was supported in the market in several races recently without going in. A bit unlucky when no clear run at Wolverhampton 2 runs ago. 3lb below last winning mark and apprentice takes off valuable 7 lb. I wouldn't be totally surprised if One One Seven finally gets his head in front again today with his stable usually earning most of its money in these low grade handicaps on the AW.

    Newcastle

    3.35 Al Ozzdi

Newcastle form reads 266152 which doesn't look that bad in my opinion. Was a good 2nd at Hamilton 3 runs ago.Return to Newcastle should suit and shrewed stable in the money last 14 days. Callum Rodriguez rides well at this track.

    Salisbury

    1.00 Mr. Top Hat

Salisbury form reads 13. Finished in the money in 19 races out of 46 Runs which doesn't look bad for each way purposes. Has won of higher marks in the past and is entered in a stronger race
at Lingfield on monday so must have shown something encouraging at home. Will have no problems with the ground.

This came out of our WhatsApp conversation yesterday, and as such it’s a bit of a forum competition race. I’m putting up previous Course and Distance winner - Cillians Well.

This is a race of rogues and rascals with so many of these having a penchant for finishing placed! Cillians Well is one of those, but he’s also a course and distance winner off a mark of 99 back in October 2018 (a much simpler time but mortgage rates were higher).

Since hacking up that day he’s run well on numerous occasions including a win off 104 at Worcester in May 2019 (simpler times and surprised the course wasn’t flooded).

This season he’s race three times and last time he showed enough to suggest that he is coming back to himself and that his turn can be close again. Throw in a nice present from the handicapper of a reduced mark of 92 and he should go close. The form of Newton Abbot looks strong with Kiruna Peak being a nice winner for Fergal since.

I assume you mean a J Murtagh double because I defiantly wouldn’t be confidant with the mortgage on either of those two, let alone doubling them. Two competitive races you have picked but good luck

I am looking and I am posting!

    15:35 Newcastle - Aiya

(Very badly drawn but should still be competitive in this event. Has a good chance on form having run very well LTO at Wolverhampton on the same Tapeta surface.)

The intriguingly named Dick Poole at Salisbury is fairly competitive and Richard Hannon's Happy Romance is perhaps a bit short at about 2/1. She has been landing big prize money race and is clearly a speedy filly but the sales races are sometimes a bit lacking in quality and her official rating of 97 is only 3rd highest in the race. She had the legs of Devious Company at York last time but he was clearly ill at ease over the sharp 6F and he then disappointed at the same trip next time.

Jessica Hartington sends Dickiedooda over and she has had a couple of wins and some runs in strong races in her four starts. She is 2 lbs higher than Happy Romance based on her official Irish rating and Millisle was narrowly touched off for the stable by Dark Lady in last year's renewal. The worry for me is that Dickiedooda has yet to tackle 6F after four runs at the minimum.

Time Scale is the highest rated on official figures and she drops from a Group two run behind Dandalla that has been working out well. She may not step up the way others have done though and I would be concerned that she has been away for two months of the season when you would expect her to be out there trying to win some nice races.

In the circumstances I took a chance on the pleasingly named Alcohol Free. If only it were free. The Andrew Balding trained filly has won her only start and although not a great race she did it nicely and the daughter of No Nay Never travelled well before asserting to win by almost two lengths. There should be improvement to come and she will need it to land this. She handled cut in the ground last time and hopefully will provide free alcohol at the bookie's expense.

Not popular this morning Alcohol Free and Dickiedooda were the ones weak in the betting. The Harrington filly seemed too big to me at 10/1 and I did a reverse forecast with the Balding runner.

    3.10 Salisbury Alcohol Free 6/1

    Alcohol Free/Dickiedooda RF

In the 5-runner 15:50 race at Haydock the very well-bred Toronto might surprise. Significantly up in trip which should suit. 11/1 freely available at the moment, so a sporting wager!
