Male suicides in England and Wales were at their highest rate in two decades last year, official figures show.

The suicide rate for women was also the highest since 2004, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).


Men accounted for around three-quarters of suicide deaths registered in 2019 - 4,303 compared with 1,388 women.

The male suicide rate of 16.9 deaths per 100,000 people was the highest since 2000, but is in line with 2018's figures.

For women, the rate was 5.3 deaths per 100,000 - the highest since 2004, but again consistent with the previous year.


In total, there were 5,691 suicides registered in England and Wales in 2019, with an age-standardised rate of 11 deaths per 100,000 population.


Across all age groups, men aged 45 to 49 had the highest suicide rate at 25.5 deaths per 100,000, while the highest rate among women was 50 to 54-year-olds at 7.4 deaths per 100,000.

Aye my paramedic mate tells me that it's mostly men that they find dead as result of suicide..Plus some of the scenes he's told me about are quite gruesome, but some i couldn't understand.

I think this is utter rubbish. ALL drugs are bad for you in one way or another if abused, cannabis is no different. That's not dismissing cannabis, which would be the first thought to enter your tiny little head. Same as drugs that cause loss of kidney or liver function, the warning signs would have been there, it's just whether you choose to take note of them or not. Much like how drugs have fooked up your brain, which now resembles a cabbage, you would have had the warning signs, but like everything, you chose to ignore them, like you ignore everything that don't fit your narratives.

I had been talking about adults not using the MMR vaccinations for their kids cos of Wakefield's lies.
I then said that ...

Cos I work with kids who are ASD I regularly get asked if I think vaccinations played a role...that ****er and those that peddle that lie have a lot to answer for imho

I gave up a hugely better paying job to do my job and have the privilege of helping to support and learn from some amazing young people and other professionals.

Like i hinted at earlier i hear grim stories all the time, but it seems hanging is still very common. Not the bit i couldn't grasp...The amount of times he's told me when they were in a position just to put their feet down, as they were not far of the ground..You'd have thought there would be a point where that instinct kicks in, but seemingly not for some.

Travellers arriving in Scotland from Greece will have to quarantine for two weeks following a "significant" spike in coronavirus cases.

The change will come into force at 4am on Thursday due to apparent new evidence that COVID-19 is being imported.


In Wales, people coming back from Zante are being asked to self-isolate for two weeks, after seven infections were discovered on a flight from the popular Greek island that landed in Cardiff on 25 August.
