Former Derby runner Telecaster runs at Deauville today and on ratings he has a good chance. The trainer admitted to making a mistake in running the inexperienced colt at Epsom and the original plan was to drop his sights after a tame effort in the Classic. Morrison went back on that thinking and sent the horse to the Eclipse and it back-fired badly, leading to the trainer telling himself off for twice failing to stick to the original plane. Telecaster won a group 3 in France this season and did it easily but it was a weak affair where he was 2/5 Fav. Stepped up to Group 2 company at York, he had a tougher task but met a mixed bag of horses in terms of reliability and he had a chance if building on the Longchamp win. In the end he could manage only 4th place and was a shade disappointing. Today's race is again a Group 2 but it looks a good bit weaker company today. The downsides for Telecaster this time are that he steps up in trip again and the ground is testing. He's not proven at the trip yet and it is going to be a slog today in all likelihood. At the odds, I feel he needs to be opposed in the circumstances. Ziyad won this race last season and that ticks some boxes right away. His most recent start was in a Group 1 at Saint Cloud, where he was 3rd, beaten just a neck and a head. That is decent form and the question today is the testing ground. It was good ground when Ziyad won last season and the different surface has to be a question but looking at the opposition and their question marks I thought Ziyad was the one to be with. In the previous race I took Telemaque at decent odds. He flopped on debut at 2YO but I felt that was too bad to be true, so gave him another chance when he returned this year. He went down a head at 12/1 that day, which was very frustrating. Last time out he was third but he took a false step and slipped that day, dropping back through the field. in the circumstances he did well enough to be just over a length back in 3rd. If he is trouble free today he may have a chance on an uninspiring race at 7/1 odds. 2.50 Deauville Telemaque 7/1 3.25 Deauville Ziyad 13/8
Great shout, Stick! Shout, Oddy, good luck with the next two! What a great jockey young William Buick is riding from the front. His ride on Native Tribe was a masterpiece.
Here's a question for you knowledgeable types ...... Overwrite is described as a roan ....... what stops him being a grey, which he looks every bit like? A tentative ew on Fortunes Hiding next ......
