Kim Min-jae Watch Yup, here we go again... According to that well known Korean newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad (just stick with this for a second...) KMJ wants out of Beijing Guoan and wants to try himself at a higher level, which may force Guoan's hand - and potentially take down the fee just a tad
Highly rated with the potential to be top drawer Spurs can’t afford the players already established as big names so for me he’s the sort of level i’d class as marquee
I definitely agree about his potential but that’s why I wouldn’t say he was a marquee signing. Zaniolo would be a bit like the midfield version of us signing Sanchez. Buying the potential more so than the guaranteed quality. For me a marquee signing is bringing in that established player who’s more or less guaranteed to raise the whole team to a new level. Like what van Dijk did at Pool or what Fernandes has done at Utd (even if he has been a bit stat padded). Or what Dybala will do with us
Leeds, Newcastle and Leicester all want Rose apparently - could we pay for Doherty with his fee! Leicester could be good for a Levying
I’d take a bag of chips for him so any money Levy gets will be great. Respect to Danny for his service to the club but he’s a shadow of the player he was for a spell. When Newcastle fans say you’re ****, you’re really ****.
Yes anything we get would be a bonus, in all honesty I would just be delighted to get him off of the wage bill, and hope that he can find a home where he is happy again - Leeds may well be his preferred option.
Rising stars like Lo Celso, Ndombele (although it hasn’t worked) and Zaniolo fit the profile. Dybala would have been more than a marquee signing if that makes sense
The thing with signing players based on potential is there's a sliding scale On one end there's the ever growing number of "Next Messi/Kante/Pogba/Drogba/Ronaldo/Modric" players, many of whom we've been linked with (or signed...) On the other end of the scale is Lewandowski, Mbappe, De Bruyne etc etc who are way beyond our means at this time The point for us is to sign the player at the exact right point between A and B so that they have the right combination of potential and end product To illustrate this I'll just put our two Giovanis side-by-side, namely Dos Santos and Lo Celso Dos Santos had broken into Barca's team the previous season and picked up 3 goals and 7 assists in 28 games the previous season, so he looked like a potential prospect - but it has to be said that we were buying pure potential there, as the only first team football he played was that one season in Barca's mid-to-late 00s killing machine, and it has to be said that Barca accepting a €6m bid without the usual buyback clause bollocks they can't help themselves with these days should have had us wondering why they didn't seem too bothered with him leaving Lo Celso, meanwhile, was very different: he'd had three seasons at Rosario Central between 2015-17, had a season in PSG's first team picking up 4 goals and 5 assists in 33 games, and then been loaned to (and later joined) Betis where he bagged 9 goals and 5 assists in 33, so he was clearly at a level where he could slot into the team and make an impression while also proving that he'd be an absolute menace once he'd got established - and to make that happen we basically had to conspire with Betis to find a way to dick PSG out of a sell-on clause The best comparison is the two Ajax CMs we were linked with 18 months ago, Frenkie de Jong and Donny van de Beek. As Cove said at the time, de Jong could've been signed and gone straight into our team and he'd play like he'd been with us for a couple of years - but we should not sign van de Beek and expect the same as he was probably a year (i.e. now) away from being the sort of player who could be expected to do a job in our midfield as he was still mostly potential at the time
Rose should have been sold or told to **** off straight after that interview in 2017. I'll say this quietly but I will NEVER get how Pochettino rewarded him by playing in him all the big games. I'll whisper this bit...Arteta has shown how to deal with players who act like they have made it ... he has completely shut down Guendooshbag and that is what should have happened to Rose. Townsend wnd Lennon were got rid of for way way less imho.
If people were unhappy with us being linked with Suarez, it's ok. We've now been linked with a different striker. Diego Costa! We should sign both and see how many red cards they could notch up for us. If Son's got three, then I reckon they can both hit double figures.
Wouldn't mind the Costa that played for Chelsea ... but he has been giving Rose a run for his money in the Mars Bar marathons over the past 3 years!
I think he's saying that publicly so that we don't look desperate to get rid of him. Either that, or there's been no tangible interest in him, so he may be stuck here - whether he and Arsenal like it or not. I'm in a minority here (amongst Arsenal fans) but I don't actually think Guendouzi is very good. There's nothing he particularly excels at, apart from being a wind-up merchant (and it backfiring on us). But he seems to be rated as a good prospect by other clubs in Europe, so I'd like to think we can sell him.
The interview at the time was definitely a dick move but had he performed like how he was doing prior to that all would’ve been forgotten. Problem for him was that he got injured, piled on the pounds and never managed to get back to that top level, so it not only resulted in the interview leaving a sour taste for many Spurs fans but he didn’t really do himself any justice by then proceeding to be pretty **** there on out. You can’t go around talking about your worth and being underpaid and then immediately play poorly. I still respect the guy for what he’s given to the club, he actually seems like a good bloke all in all, someone you could probably enjoy a pint with down the pub ( he was caught getting on it at the darts a couple years back whilst holding a “Mousa Dembele is the GOAT” placard ) but he sort of ruined it for himself by failing to show just exactly why he was underpaid/ undervalued. I hope he can get his career back on track, personally he’s not someone I hold any ill feelings towards.
I’d take him, one of those players where as he played for a rival I ****ing hated him but once he left you could appreciate how brilliant his ****housery is. Was it Jose that signed him for Chelsea too?
