You do know that our net spend over the last 5 windows (ie including the two with no signings) is exactly the same as Chelsea currently.
They are simply spending the Hazard and Morata fees. Covid has cost us more than any other club as the revenue from the new stadium is so high. Around £4m per match I reckon. Chelsea is only half that.

Yeah I saw something earlier that showed Chelsea could actually end up in profit because they could feasibly end up selling Jorginho, Zappacosta, Emerson and Bakayoko for around £80million and the Hazard and Morata money was big too

Our best players in recent years, by and large, have come from the academy or have been clever, slightly off-beat business in the £10-30m range, not the marquee signings. Realistically it’s where we have to shop because other clubs can blow us out of the water if they want to financially. It’s what I suspect happened with Tanguy - everyone probably knew about his training and fitness issues, but we took the punt when bigger clubs he was linked to decided he wasn’t worth the risk, as he was a long term target for us.

At the time we fans probably didn't take the Ndombele fitness concerns too seriously but the club really did **** up. Surely the medical tests and looking into his history showed big, **** off red flags and therefore told the club to steer clear(?!).

Club should've listened to you and I mate, just done some digging as I remember talking about going for two for the price of one, we nailed it <laugh>:

I’d take the Belgian and Super Jack but we wouldn’t need Ndombele on top of that and also, tbh, he’s probably the most likely to be subject to a bidding war out of the three, and we won’t be winning one of them.
Ultimately I have no qualms whatsoever if Ndombele joins, he looks a very good player but just pointing out that if we have X amount to spend and Ndombele would likely take up a large chunk of that, I’d lean more towards bringing in say Tielemans and Grealish/ Fernandes for the same price as Ndombele and then focus on areas like RB/ WF etc.

Club needs to hire us I say...

This is what happens when Levy 'backs the manager'. We need a DoF.

**** gets real when Romano confirms talks. Just gotta wait for the “here we go, total agreement” to know it’s all done.

Mike McGrath is claiming Fulham want to sign Gazza.

Hmm... not sure about this. Whilst Hart has joined and will add valuable experience and leadership, he has looked terrible when playing for Burnley/ West Ham whereas Gazza has been excellent in spells and ok in others, producing just one major **** up from my memory which was against Chelsea. Jose did also say that he was happy to have the strength in depth so I’d be surprised if we now sell Gazza.

The only potential plus of the deal is that we’d definitely make a profit on the £2.5m we paid and it’d also free up a foreign player spot in the squad.

Personally I wouldn’t sell, unless Gazza himself wants/ forces move if he thinks there’s a better chance of game time.

We have 3 GK with first team PL / UEFA / international experience,
and a September fixture schedule from hell.

Barring an utter injury plague, if Jose cannot manage GK rotation
until at least Feb to ensure all get competitive game time, then he should quit.

I agree.

I’m a massive fan of Gazzaniga and feel that this position (back up keeper) is actually a really difficult position to replace in a squad. Trying to find quality that doesn’t mind being sitting on the bench is a hard balance.

Yes, we’ve signed Hart, but he’s not getting any younger. Granted, we’ve got potential youngsters coming through, but I don’t think it’s the right time to part ways with Gazza. He’s the first sub keeper we’ve had in years who I don’t **** myself watching. The odd mistake in him, but he’s a pretty solid performer and has definitely shown Lloris up at times.

I can’t see us getting a big, marquee signing tbh. I think Levy has been badly burned by NDombele and he’ll go back to being cautious.

Plus our record of spending ‘big’ money is poor. For arguments sake these days let’s say for us thats £30m plus. GLC I think will be a major success and has already been influential but when you pay that kind of money you expect a player to establish themselves as a consistent, influential starter, and I don’t think any of the others have. I know fees have inflated over the years and arguably £20-30m isn’t that much now but, still. It is for us, especially in this market.

Levy knows this, I think, and I think he also believes that building a hard working group of good footballers with a smattering of world class talent, headed by a coach who can instil a winning, ruthless mentality in them, is what will win us trophies. Poch couldn’t do that. It’s now Jose’s task.
That was the weird thing last summer: there weren't any transfer auctions like what usually happens, it was always the first club who bid who got the player

What really stands out with Ndombele is the shoutiest section of our fanbase really should take their share of responsibility for the whole ****up, considering they have been bellowing about signing players (and still do, ****ing hell our Twitter fanbase doesn't seem to realise we've signed three players already this summer...) and also about how we need to spend big, and what was Ndombele? The big money transfer fee they wanted...and their immediate response was to howl that we were paying him £120k a week right off the bat even though they spent years howling about how we weren't chucking six figure wages at everyone

As I've said before, in retrospect we could've signed Stanislav Lobotka and Florian Grillitsch and still had some leftover compared to what we spent on Ndombele and our midfield would've been more balanced, what with Grillitsch being a DM and Lobotka being closer to the Dembele mold than Sissoko ever was, but as I've also said a few times the thing with those two is while their ceiling is probably no higher than 8/10 in games their floor is no lower than 6/10, and that's the issue with the balance of our squad because while there are some players who can be relied upon to be at least 6/10 in every game (Lloris and Davies certainly spring to mind) so many of our players can have drastic swings so they're capable of a 9/10 performance for a few games and then drop to 2/10 for a few after that (i.e. Son, Lucas, Dele)

he’s the biggest useless piece of ****ing turd I have ever come across

just sell him...need players that are focused.

I don’t even understand people saying this guy has immense potential...his potential has contributed the sub total of **** all for us...so what use is it...to me he is useless, absolute.

can’t be bothered with the fat twat anymore
