If reports are to be believed, we are closing in on Ben Chilwell. Is he the defender we need?
We certainly need quality but I’m not sure he’s the right fit for us, especially as a left back. Who’s going to make way for him? I fear that Alonsos time has come but with it we see James’s time really start to happen.
What do we think about this?

Young & decent enough but a bit pricy.

Totally agree. Have seen nothing to make me want him. Decent enough but nothing more, and not a great defender. Wouldn't be my choice, but Frank sees something apparently. Hope he's right, but don't think we're getting anyone much better than Alonso in attack, if as good. Weird, looks to me like buying mediocrity at premium prices, in a position we are desperate to strengthen. Trust the Club know more than we do, but not so sure. Rather pay the asking price for Havertz and look for cheaper option at left back. Can't see Chilwell in the top 10 best left backs going around, let alone the best.

As you say Frank knows what he wants and obviously sees what we miss. At just 23 years old he has two years to develop him into the player he requires.

With the back room staff that are currently in place you’d like to think they know what they’re doing. You have to trust that the ex players will want to do the best for the club.

Chillwell crops up in the opponents penalty area many times during a game, so too, Alonso. The difference is he also crops up in his own area too.

He’s an improvement on what we’ve got, that’s certain. 80M was too much but the 50 that’s reported seems a reasonable price. The good thing about him is he’s good in the air, cause we were dreadful at defending set pieces.

Thiago Thursday & M Sarr on a free
Looks like pretty good business being done, and Silva, despite being "over age" is a sensible idea for at least one season to give us some stability. Chilwell at the rumoured price of 45 also looks a much better buy than at 80 !! Just keep fingers crossed we get Havertz and we will have made giant steps for the future.
Hope we manage to sell off those players no longer required, good luck to all of them, who certainly did their best for us.
