The key thing for me is that the chances of us signing Walcott, Promes or Jimenez were slim to none (but if they’re only motivated by wages do we care?). Carrillo was a terrible signing and only Pelligrino to blame. But as others have said, the player was a nice enough guy and should not be held responsible. I’m pretty sure he’s simply not good enough but just out of interest, did Ralph ever get a proper look at him?

I think we could have got Walcott, if we’d been willing to match whatever Everton were paying him.

Why am I underwhelmed? Could it be that Shane Long has scored more Premier League goals than Welbeck. OK he's 3 and a bit years older but spent 3 seasons in the Championship..

Why would he go to Villa!?
And why would we sell him for less than we bought him for when he's just had the season he's had!?

Whoever believes that is missing something upstairs.

Located up here in the Midlands, the delusion of the Billa fans and supporting press is hilarious.
Anyone read the article about a Villa buying a Danny Ings for £18m? They are getting excited by this complete guff
I mean, in a world where Harry Maguire fetches £80 million, a striker like Danny Ings would by any logic have a price tag north of £150 million.

Interesting when you see playees like Lewis Dunk sign mew deals at clubs like Brighton. He has had interest from huge clubs yet Brighton can get him to sign a new deal - makes you wonder why we can't do similar with any of our players.

Because Brighton have offered him a huge wage.
Kind of my point. We wont pay an extra £40k per week to someone we know is our best player - yet we will sign someone for £16m (Hoedt/Lemina/Elyounoussi/Carrillio/etc) and give them a 4 year deal on £60k a week.

It is not only a bad football decision football-wise but we end up with unproven players that cost more.

Admittedly this was largely caused by Les Reed & co - this is more me venting frustation rather than moaning at current events.

Maybe they have offered him a new deal and promised to let him go in a year. This way the club gets a decent fee and the player earns more money whilst agreeing to wait a year.

I don’t know, it is just a suggestion

Agreed. This happens quite often and I remember van Dick (intentional spelling) signing a 5 year contract when we knew he probably wouldn’t stay any longer than the next 6 months. I think some players/clubs do this whereas some players want a massive signing on fee and high wages paid to them by being a free agent.
