If you pay £12k for a bike then it's every bit justified to be called a bike ****er.

I know a guy who spent* over £7k on a wheelchair at least 10 years ago .<yikes>

    * The majority was covered by his NHS voucher though it took nearly a year of negotiating and producing reports from OT's etc to squeeze that amount .

I'm looking at a new one following a recent crash. Seen an all carbon one for about £1600 with nice kit on it

I’m contemplating a motorbike like. Wouldn’t get on a pedal bike if you paid me, you see them getting scraped up off the floor all the time in town. Buses usually squish them against a kerb and leave them in a heap on the side of the road.

Also, ‘Sorry’ is the full extent of their insurance if they hit your car. That’s gotta change.

Best advice I got from my dad when I started to drive was "just assume everyone else using the road is a ****in idiot"
I do this even more so when I'm out on my bike.
The doubled up riding is a safety thing. Reasons behind it are all over Google.

Dunno if @Tel has already passed his motorbike test, if he hasn't he'll soon learn about defensive riding.

Its like when I come up to a traffic island on my bike, you can be sure some **** in a car will try to overtake when the road narrows. I'll just change my road position if there's a car coming up behind me as I approach the island. Move back in when I've passed the island. Everybody's safe.

You’d be increasing the likelihood exponentially if you decided to get a bike.

Paid £3k for my 07 focus 5 years ago, very comfortable, never lets me down and has cost me the tax and MOT prices ever since.

£5k or £1k for a bike is someone getting raped <laugh>

    Johnny Hoogerland.

He got back on the bike, after going through the barbed wire fence at 60km per hour. Finished the stage, went to hospital for 33 stitches and carried on the next day.

Theres a lot of snobbery surrounding bikes these days .
Woman I work with was telling me about her ex husband and his obsession.
    £7,000 for a bike .
She said he would look for the most expensive helmet, shorts, jersey shoes with the top name brands .
Paying over £300 + plus on some of the items.
Another guy I work with got a really good bike ( carbon ) .
His mate runs a bike shop and he got a bike worth nearly £2,000 for just over a thousand quid .
He said how us it that cheap and his mate told him it's not the latest model and people want those :emoticon-0145-shake.
He said it's crazy its virtually the same .
    I've got a £400 Carrera road bike and it's great :emoticon-0148-yes:

Yep, it's not just the bikes that cost an arm and a leg, all the gear such as accessories, clothing can run you hundreds for a single item as you say. If you want a new new bike it's always more economical to try and find a model that's going out of production or that's been replaced, the average rider isn't going to notice much of a difference at all and the new bike will still feel better than the outgoing one, or no bike at all, or if you're alright with getting a pre-owned one, ebay and facebook marketplace always have some sweet bikes, of course you're relying on the owner telling the truth about use, crashes etc here, especially if it's carbon. But prices in the industry have gone crazy, fuelled by hype, snobbery and exclusivity as you say.

Bike I'm replacing is around 7 years old and I got that new with a decent discount for around a grand when the models were being updated. The equivalent bike nowadays is near £3000

Planet X is the company I was on about, but I'm honestly tempted to just build one up from cheap Chinese carbon direct from the factories, you can get framesets, components etc all on ebay

Enjoy your Carrera, bikes are for riding, not posing <ok>

e bikes are obvs a different kettle of fish !
What's a reasonable price to pay for a decent one £1,500 to £2,000 maybe ??
Are the y reliable and do they cost a lot to fix.
Theres also the distance of battery and life of it ?
