In any other walk of life human rights abuse accusations have always been served but about half the population accept it and half wont even realise they are swallowing it. Its never affected them, ignorance is bliss. However once football is involved then human rights accusations are always going to stick in peoples throat. There will be people up and down the country who hadnt realised that Saudi Arabia's record regarding human rights were a concern until this takeover news broke. Football brings together people from all walks of life, it affects almost everyone. This takeover has raised a beacon for the average person (football supporter) to question Saudi Arabia's human rights abuses. 'They can have their finger in many a pie, havnt really noticed, but heaven forbid they can keep there hands off of our football!!!'
Its affected me. I was always aware that Saudi Arabia's human rights were iffy, but never really took an interest. Its not until this takeover that I have sat up and taken notice. I can imagine the Saudi's being quite surprised at the resistance folk have for this takeover, they have probably never come up against it before. Its because folk have a passion for football and dont have a passion for Starbucks or Shell or whichever business they have a stake in. After this they may come up with a little more resistance on all fronts, not just football.
