I don't think he said the current format. He said Rangers got to the last 8. Finishing 2nd in their group which actually means we got to the last 4 which would be the semi finals today.
That was the season Marseilles won it but were then embroiled in a bribery scandal. Using the Celtic-method, surely that means we won the cup that year?
Marseilles were done for paying off Valenciennes, were they not? It's not as if they had better players than they could afford by not paying properly for them - in the context of the competition.. ...that really WOULD be cheating
think rangers drew 2-2 with them at ibrox and 1-1 with them in france and the away goals cost us a place in the final against AC Milan. but let's look forward and not dwell on events that happened a long time ago. only poor teams live in the past.
Away goals cost you a place in the final !!!! You finished third in a group of four after losing your last game , to finish 4/5 points behind Marsailles
Yes, I remeber the final game v CSKA and a certain Dmitiri Kharine played the game of his life to stop us scoring.
Rather than take a wild guess, why not just look it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992–93_UEFA_Champions_League_group_stage We finished 2nd, 1 point behind Marseille. Actually if you think about, comparing our points total with IFK Göteborg, that would have meant we were the 3rd best team in the whole of Europe then.
you can tell harry is smart because unlike us common folk he knows that you put a space before your punctuation marks !!! like so . well done harry . Did they teach that in lady of the rosary high school ?
after rangers drew with marseille in france, that side of the CL was over as it was between rangers and marseille as to who played in the final. the two teams drew 2-2 at ibrox and drew 1-1 in france so marseille went through to the final that night on away goals and rangers lost out on the final on away goals that night. the final group game did not count as the section winners had already been decided. it's not too hard to understand. in fact it's quite straightforward for anybody not wearing their celtic tinted specs.
