BBC reporting explosion as an accident. A fire breaking out at an explosive depot.

Edit.. to keep on topic, maybe we can create another war out of this and rescue the economy?
I’m confused bruv, saw many shots of desolation but smoke in the background. Not in the country now so don’t get all the up to the minute jazz. What’s it all about?

I'm wondering if that is water that has caused that after effect, because the building looks like it is on a shoreline. So my guess being as it's fireworks or ammunitions there, that it might be on a small island or peninsula surrounded by water.
Think you’re right, would explain why there is a distinct lack of stuff burning, yes flames but an explosion that size would surely have left more fires burning

I was as much shocked how much new development had taken place in Beirut. Sadly I always had memories of it being a war torn place. Sad something like this has happened in more peaceful times.
Maybe I’m being idealistic but I honestly thought this **** had finished. Sad for the loss of life but sadder for the perpetrators frame of mind.

I think people automatically tie Beirut with war, but it looks quite the opposite now, many modern developments, we have to remember that factory is in an old industrial area.

Incoming report from BBC. Link in previous post.

A large blast has hit the Lebanese capital, Beirut, causing widespread damage and injuring many people, officials say.

It is not yet clear what caused the explosion in the port area of the city. Video posted online showed a large mushroom cloud and destroyed buildings.

Hospitals are said to be overwhelmed by casualties.

It comes at a sensitive time with the country's economic collapse reigniting old tensions.

Tensions are also high ahead of the verdict in a trial over the killing of ex-PM Rafik Hariri in 2005. A UN tribunal is due to issue its verdict in the trial of four suspects in the murder by car bomb of Hariri on Friday.
Lebanon's health minister, Hamad Hasan, has spoken of many injuries and extensive damage.

Reuters news agency quotes sources as saying 10 bodies have been pulled from the wreckage.

The cause of the explosion is still not known, but some reports suggest it may have been an accident. Lebanon's National News Agency reported a fire breaking out at what it called an explosives depot at the port.

It was water vapour, there’s another video of it from the water side that clearly shows it.

Bobble heads on social media are calling it nuclear though lol.

Fireworks factory apparently.

Well, we've shown him pictures. We've sent it in text.

I resent that comment, apart from hospital duties I have little else to do bar bake bread... anybody have three fishes like?

See that would be my biggest worry leaving the UK, hospitals; consultants, doctors, medication! I suppose you went out their before all the health stuff started kicking in.
