The big issue is the start of Eid this weekend. This frequently involves big, multi generational meetings both in mosques and homes, and is I suspect the driver behind this announcement

Added to this of course BAME people have a higher death rate

I wouldn’t support people going to Catalonia or Aragon. The islands, absolutely.

The point really is that people hugely bought into the collective ‘blitz spirit’ stuff for a while and the government have done just about everything possible to piss away that good will.

Probably, but then releasing the detail with two hours’ notice doesn’t seem the ideal way to send the message if you’re genuinely looking to have an impact.

Maybe not but the government is in an invidious position - it will either be accused of acting too slowly or acting too quickly

Unfortunately I think that local, tactical actions need to happen as soon as an issue is identified

In the case of the NW as I said above I think the proximity of Eid required an urgent announcement, albeit the timing (mid evening) wasn't ideal

The Government have made many mistakes and much of the messaging has been confused.
However, I believe certain people (a seemingly growing number, especially in the under 30s) are using said confused messages to simply do whatever the hell they like.
I've been pretty clear since March on what I can and can't do and have just tried to get on with it the best I can.
Using faux confusion about the guidelines is very selfish and ultimately could lead to a second wave.

I’ll need you to spend another afternoon in Sainsbury’s guessing the ages of those not wearing masks to make this more robust.

My son says that in his Sainsbury (he's worked there through out CV19) it's the U25s and crackheads who typically can't be arsed with masks or distancing

All his colleagues now want to work on the kiosk (his role) because it is one of the few where a mask isn't required because he's behind a screen

That’ll happen when the CEO makes a point of announcing that they aren’t going to enforce mask-wearing in their stores.

Sadly that was to protect staff. My son has been sworn at and several members of staff assaulted in his store during lock down

Their manager told staff that they wouldn't risk store staff being subject to further abuse

Their store security is also not allowed to pursue shoplifters in the car park because previous attacks

Sadly sections of the public see shop and other front line workers as legitimate targets for abuse

Certainly didn't, although I reckon most of those that hit the beach after his story broke would have done it anyway.

Probably didn’t help that going to the beach was explicitly given the green light.

    From todays briefing at Holyrood...

Nicola Sturgeon said there were 30 new cases of coronavirus in today's daily numbers.

This was the first time there had been this many cases in a day for almost eight weeks.

Ms Sturgeon said this showed the success in fighting the virus was fragile but she wanted to put it into context.

The last time there were 30 new cases it was from 5,000 tests. Yesterday they conducted 15,000 tests.

Today's new cases represent less than 1% of those tested and were spread over nine health board areas.

Ms Sturgeon said the virus was under control but people needed to take care.

She'd better have it under control....because if I have to cancel my NW500 trip I shall be annoyed :emoticon-0136-giggl

Staycation for me this year - I can't be doing with the hassle of flying somewhere and the risk of a short notice cancellation

I also feel I should spend my money here in the UK too this summer

Lovely up there - if you get decent weather. It's ****ing grim if it's wet! You on the bike, or just touring by car?

Spent the whole of the summer up there two years ago working, so know most of the route pretty well - roads should be even quieter than they normally are, which would be good if you're on a bike and you can open it up!

In my car....but still happy to put my foot down

Until I get shouted at by my the other half that is :emoticon-0136-giggl

Doing a mix of hotels and Airbnbs - some great places off the beaten track and very good prices too

Unfortunately starting the drive from Hertfordshire this time - earlier this year I'd planned to start from my then base in Aberdeen, reducing my round trip by almost 1000 miles!

I'll wave at you on your way past!

Don't be tempted to put your foot down on the A9, plenty of speed and average speed cameras up to Inverness. After that, you should be ok.

I was at the beach yesterday, and I got there on a train. Given that that I'm pretty much certain that I had the virus months ago and am therefore neither infectious or infectible currently, I don't accept your characterisation.

I had to visit our new building in Poole so thought I would drive along the coast to Bournemouth.
What I notice: Social Distancing....doesn't exist down here. Either I live in area that is exempt form Covid 19 or visitors are just plain stupid. All car parks were over flowing. People were parking where they shouldn't. Beaches were packed....some interesting sites....I dare say a lot of crap will be left be visitors. Sad as it seems I was praying for thunder storms and hail storms
I also had to stop off before I got home to pick up some groceries. There is also large numbers of people that don't understand Entrance Only and exit only. Maybe this is why the govt want to get kids back to school so they can educate the people looking after them?
If Covid only attacked the stupid then then a massive percentage of the world's population would catch it rather than some of the other's who have caught and not survived it.
    Rant over
