I think the difference here is that this was a very direct political interference in the journalistic freedom of an independent media source

Those moaning about the BBC are more concerned with how it is funded given that it is effectively taxpayer funded

I sincerely doubt those moaning about the BBC would be doing so if they didn’t (wrongly) perceive it to be anti-Brexit/Tories/white heterosexual blokes named Gary. Probably more accurately they wouldn’t do so if their puppet masters in the right wing press didn’t tell them to.

A big difference between moaning about a media organisation in public and the government of the day actively removing journalistic freedom though - surely even you see that?

Or are you taking your views from your puppet masters in the left wing media

Of course there’s a difference. Just thought it was a valid point as it’s a slippery slope and there’d be enough people on one side or the other cheering if The Guardian or The Times was denied freedom to report as it wanted.

The Mail and Telegraph are maybe a grey area as they’ve stopped really being newspapers at all but I still think it’s fair they exist as giving people scare stories about Corbyn and Somalians satisfies a demand in the marker.

Isn't all television taxpayer funded at the end of the day? We all end up paying for these products, services that are being advertised.

The current Hungarian government already has a distinctly checkered past - building a big fence to keep those nasty immigrants out (probably where Trump got his idea from) and persecuting Roma people

And - at a tangent - of course the Polish election results are likely to have a negative effect on LGBT rights there. Needless to say BLM hasn't been a big hit there either

Nationalism has been creeping more quickly up the agenda in some of the former Eastern Bloc countries

We have a choice as to whether to buy a product advertised on TV but not about buying a TV licence (OK, some people don't bother to buy a licence either)
Ah, ok. Without watching ads, I turn the sound down if they are on TV, I have the impression that so much is advertised you are bound to end up buying a lot of it anyway
