I just assumed that as we are ignoring lock-down and social distancing then presumably we are in the habit of ignoring all preventative measures and their certain effects on the raw numbers. If fewer people are dying in road traffic accidents then presumably we no longer need to worry about drunk-driving, speeding, seat-belts or any of the other measures that have come in. Cars just must not be as dangerous as we thought they were 50 years ago so lets slack all that off.

I reckon we should do the same with all health and safety, once the numbers go down it's evidence we didn't need it in the first place. You make a good point which is impossible to argue with. Now I'll catch you all later, I'm off to fireproof my house with asbestos.

I tried that with Head and Shoulders. Never again, it was a fcking snow storm in midsummer.

Thankfully I watched the advert and bought some more.

Why have you cropped my quote?

Explain how that's relevant to your argument that we have built up resistance to the flu when the CDC report in 2017 showed that from the period 1976 to 2010 the rate of flu related death was 3000 to 50.000 and between 2010 to 2016 was 16,000 to 50000.

That shows that the flu which has been around for a lot longer (to answer your question) has shown no evidence of a growing resistance to it. It's getting worse or around the same.

How do you use that to apply your argument to Covid?

Okay, let’s assume that the increase in flu deaths is not due simply to better recognition and reporting of cases, how does any of that help your case? From what I see, it is a damning indictment against lockdown and other draconian measures.

It has long been established that the flu is a difficult virus to control or contain, being resistant to vaccines and extremely adept at mutating into new strains. To the extent that Man has learned to live with it without the need for economy-crashing infringements to our freedoms.

Why should Covid 19 be any different?

My argument is that Covid is considerably worse than flu. Far more lethal. So whilst we only need to take modest steps to contain the flu, the fact that the numbers for Covid are higher and because we really have no idea and no evidence of any growing resistance, the steps to contain Covid have to be timely and more robust.

The timely part is important. I can't stress enough, had we locked down immediately, stopped ppl flying in, track and traced from the word go, then we might very well have come out of lockdown earlier. Which perhaps would've suited both of us?

I have a friend who works for a large hospital trust in north west London. He said they had identified close to 2000 ppl with Covid who had arrived into the UK (Heathrow) in ONE week in April. This is just one example of why I think the notion of doing nothing has been a disaster mate.

The conspiracy theorists have both angles covered.

Low death rate - what’s all the fuss about? Nothing more than the flu, lockdown was a waste of time

High death rate - they’ve inflated it to justify lockdown, it was never anything more than the flu.

It’s easy being a contrary **** and not offering any actual substance to back up lazy arsed conspiracy theories.

I do take on board what you say - and thank you for discussing this with me in a respectful manner and without resorting to the kind of insults and personal slurs that have typified the responses of others.

I do not dispute that Covid 19 can kill, but I do not accept that it is any more dangerous than other pandemics that the world has faced. And yet this is the first time in the modern era that governments have adopted such draconian measures. I am not siding with any particular “conspiracy theorist” but I do think that people are being extremely naive if they think we have been told the complete truth.

I do not believe that a lockdown is the right way to react, for reasons that I have already explained. I get that people disagree with me on that point, and I respect their right to hold a different opinion.

I do not accept that the wearing of face masks is going to achieve anything but harm. I get that people disagree with me on that point, and I respect their right to hold a different opinion.

That is rich coming from you, given that your very first comment to me about face masks was this

You are so naive, it actually pains me.

That’s completely wrong.

Not only is there no scientific evidence that proves the wearing of these stupid masks does anything to prevent the spread of microbes, but there is very good evidence to show that they do more harm than good.

I can respect your position far more than some **** who claims to acknowledge the threat, claims they're doing everything to tackle it, but their every inaction shows they actually don't give a ****. Fcking hypocrites.

Btw having worked through the last 4 months and having watched ppl's changing attitudes out there, over that period, I hate to say it, but you're only saying what imo a lot of ppl think about it now.

Wowzer, facts. What on earth do you think you are playing at? Don't go quoting things back that don't fit the narrative, are you so naive about how this works?

I treat people how they treat me.

Treat me with respect, and I you will be respected in return. Treat me with contempt, and I am at a loss as to why you should expect anything else in return from me.

It is a shame that this board has a moderator who is as unfit, by his conduct, to moderate this board, as you were to moderate the Gooner board (when it was actually decent).

Firstly that’s a demonstrable lie. You called me an imbecile in response to a post that merely contained actual facts.

Secondly, you think I’m just going to have that comment on top of the rest of the ****e you’ve thrown at me? Nah, not how it works. Get in the bin.

Oh and if you start crying on other threads or do your usual Tobes is a Nazi routine, you’ll get another site ban @brb

I think it's a rank disgrace how some people respond to you buddy, you have been around here long enough to merit unswerving respect.

Take heart my ally:

"Though the path of the truther be besieged upon all sides by the sheeple quoters of empirically researched 'evidence', the true of faith stay the course to achieve the enlightenment of absolute righteous indignation in the face of 'facts' "

You and I will be honoured and respected by our Zerganoid overlords prior to our disembowelment.

That’s bollocks, as your very first comment to me was your condescending ‘you’re so naive’ remark. I hadn’t even been discussing this with you up until that point anyway, as I was responding to Comm.

So that makes you a hypocrite.
