And to think we nearly sold him to wolves for £10m a couple of seasons back.
Played every minute of every game in the PL for us this season.

Like a lot of the team, he was strangely out of sorts at the start of this season but his form since Xmas has been phenomenal, surely another England call up is on the horizon.

JWP is crucial to our resurgence this year. His tenacity to win the ball back, his technical brilliance and his tireless engine make him absolute gold dust within Ralph's footballing ethos.

He's taken a long time to become an essential. I've always liked him, and remember an early game at Everton when he came on as a sub and some big git whacked him within about five seconds of his arrival as a "welcome to the Prem" notice. I thought he'd been broken, but just got up and played. Wasn't sensational or flashy but just did what he had to do. Said to a mate afterwards that he'd do. Have had times with him when I thought I was mistaken, but he is now Captain Marvel. I'll point out that I'm usually right. Thought that Le Tissier bugger was too flash for his own good and would end up playing for Eastleigh. So there you go.
