I'll give you that - it's the Julian date. Based on the start date of the Julian period - defined in the 16th Century as 1st January 4713 BC - it represents the number of days that have passed since then, so today's date is 20201. I can't for the life of me think why astronomers find it useful though...Anything to do with the Julian calendar?
