We lack a bit of width at the minute. Apart from Dyer we dont have an out and out winger. Peltier and Konchesky dont get forward as much as Naughton and Van Aanholt did. For me Neil Danns has to play as we lack creativity with King playing. The midfield 4 should be Wellens, Johnson, Fernandes and Danns at the minute but not in a diamond. We should play 4132/4312. That gives us more width then the diamond while we stay solid at the back and maybe get forward better. The back 4 is now playing how we expected after spending nearly 8M+ on it. The goals will come when we can get Nugent and Beckford fit. Maybe even getting a short term loan in to cover their injuries as Beckford keeps having to come off injured I wonder if Beckford had a proper medical as in the end we only just beat the clock to sign him. He only arrived in Leicester 45 mins before the deadline so i dont know if he had a medical
You can scores goals and lose. But if keep a clean sheet you are guanteed at least a point Gung ho is not the answer and never will be. Barcelona dont even go gung ho
I can't believe some of you don't see goals in a strike pairing of Beckford and Nugent. Those up top and the defence we have coupled with an inform Wellens, Fernandes and Danns with Johnson as our catalyst. I can see that side going far.
Its definitely a point gained. Wasnt able to go or listen to the game today, but would have snatched your hand off for a point. Our 2 most successful managers that I remember, Martin O'Neill and Matt Gillies both made sure that the defence was strong, and then built on that. Our defence is starting to look strong. Think Vassell has taken a lot of stick based on comments on the radio. From what I have seen of him this season I would say that he has impressed me for the main part, and has been pretty consistent. He has never been an out and out goal scorer - even in his prime. Thank God that Konch doesnt get forward as often as Van Arnholt - he was pants. Peltier has been excellent every time he has started. Looking forward to having Nuge back as he looks the best striker that we have had in years. But then, Nuge and Beckford will have to learn to play together. Its a 46 game season, and if we continue to progress at the rate that we have already - from Brizzle and Reading then it will be a successful season. Am sure we will have some disappointments on the way but anyone who believes that we should walk this league deludes themselves.
Vassell annoys me. He runs his socks off all game and creates space and tires defenders. But give him the ball and he suddenly becomes ****. He can't really dribble with it, he does a sort of half step over thing and ends up running into trouble. He can't really shoot, he has never been a goalscorer. He can't really pass either. If Vassell could do those things he'd still be playing for England bless him.
Think we have been watching a different player. Works hard, has pace, rarely gives the ball away. Often finds himself isolated cos others cant keep up with him. Would be interesting to see if he could play in the hole just behind Nuge and Beckford
But where's his end product? Yes he's quick and can pull off a lovely bit skill now and again but: 1. This only happens once a game 2. Rarely does anything come of it. He either slices the cross too long, scuffs it or takes too long to send it in. 3. His shooting and finishing is shocking. Last week against Brighton he made the schoolboy error of hitting the side netting with a good chance instead of shooting across goal. His goalscoring record is poor. 4. He generally makes the wrong decision. Take Cardiff for example - in the first half he beat the offside trap, instead of cutting inside and shooting or pulling it back he chose to go left down a blind alley. 5. He's a good first touch but his 2nd and 3rd touches are the ones that let him down. Yes he's got pace but lacks a football brain. He occassionally has a big effect on a game but these are few and far between. He's nothing more than a squad player for me and it annoys me that Sven's in love with him.
Agreed. For someone who played for England and with his experience he is pretty crap in their box. Nugent and Beckford will bang goals in aslong as the formation and service is right
First time we have kept 3 clean sheets in a row since 2009 ... says it all really Hopefully we can make it 4 on Sat and get a couple of goals as well.
Having gone to the Riverside Stadium last night, I would say it was a very solid performance from us last night and a draw was a fair result. We restricted them to a few half chances and created a few ourselves but they do have one of the best defensive records in the league. It was clear that our pace upfront with Vassell and Schluup had them unsettled at times. What I have noticed though is how many of our opponents view a game against us as a true test of their credentials and clearly raise their game. The two defeats against Reading and Bristiol City are behind us and I feel now we are becoming a team difficult to beat. Hopefully the return of Nugent for the Derby game is a massive plus for us and can see the threat of Beckford, Nugent and Vassell causing problems for opposing defences. Overall a solid start to the season after that initial stutter but I think the best is yet to come.
We would have so lost both them games last season , im happy with being hard to beat as you say three clean sheets in a row in this div is nothin to sniff at and look at the teams we played , beat the rams at the weekend all will happy
