Can anyone here give me some first hand info about these foundation degrees? I had to drop out of college two years back and work to help the elders pay bills and such and now things are steadied I feel like ive really missed out with not going to uni. Im almost 21 now and dont fancy another 2 years of college, but ive heard that foundation degrees allow you to go to uni and gain the requirements needed to persue your degree after a year or two. Are they easy enough to get into?

Thats what I did, and Im topping up to a full degree with the Open University, hoping to go onto a PhD after.

I waited a little longer than you mind, I saved for a house (which I now have when I turned 29 in August) so hope to be graduated when im 31!

Errrm, can't give you any first hand info myself but I know a lad who did a foundation degree at Chester Uni (sports science I think?) after managing to only get an E in psychology after 2 years of A levels...

I'd say having a look on some websites like AimHigher/Connections/UCAS will be your best bet for information!

Couple of people on my course are here on foundation degrees. Don't know what you need to get on but the people who've did the foundation stuff probably had better knowledge than the rest of us since they'd got on the degree learning about the subject rather than on some A levels.

Just don't bother with education, there are no jobs out there whether you have a degree or not.

You need to be at level 3 (national certificate) before embarking on a two year foundation degree, the foundation degree is basically the old school HND; higher national diploma which takes you level 5 education. Upon completion of the FdSc you can in some instances take a further 1 year "top-up" to level 6 which is your Hons degree if you include the dissitation.
    In brief:
Level 3 = National Ceritificate (ONC)
Level 4 = Higher National Certicate
Level 5 = Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree
    Level 6 = Degree

As profound as it is, it does reflect the current job market.

Sounds pretty familiar, I finished uni this year and have only just started a job totally unrelated, every now and then you hear of storied of people waithing years for a 'graduate job'. My job is not great pay but not bad and mind numbingly boring but a job is a job at the end of the day.

Personally I have always found the idea of an apprenticeship quite alluring, although I couldn't make any recommendations.

Doubt you will find a course this year anyway, unless it's something obscure.

Same here man. I'm working in something so far from what I've studied for. Parents want me to do my masters but i wont bother.
I'd rather go abroad and just work for some time, find something you wanna do/open a business and put your effort in that instead.

By the sounds of it not many here would be qualified to to do if those jobs were going.

And they get internet in there? Not surprised, prisoners are treated far too well these days.
