I really like Settle Petal and think she will run a big race in her hat-trick bid tonight but the race conditions give the 3yo fillies a whopping 10lbs advantage. Add in to this the scope for improvement and it is clear that she and all the other older horses really are up against it.
WAND 50/1 is an interesting one for a yard that I have a lot of time for. The RP comment suggests that she has been given a tough opening mark so I have done a few minutes research into her form.
On her last run she was 1.75L behind a horse of the Queens trained by Michael Bell. That has come out and won a Leiceter handicap since. The winner was a nice horse of Gosdens that has already followed up. The runner up came 3rd in a handicap and the 6th and 7th have both been placed in their next runs. So the race is working out really well.
Wand was 6th at Lingfield on her second start with a RP comment of "Took keen hold, midfield, pushed along 2f out, nudged along inside final furlong, eyecatcher". That race has thrown up four future winners. Her Kempton debut race has produced five future winners. There is no doubt that she has bumped into some nice if not too flashy types.
Crucially for me she is now upped in trip. Her sire is Camelot and her dams sire is Nayef so a mile was never going to be enough. She hasnt helped the cause by not settling very well either but if Kingscote can get her anchored in the early stages then her stamina can come into play in the latter stages and she might just outrun her odds.
BET365 each way extra is offering 40/1 for 5 places and not being greedy I have made that my play.
On the negative side, she hasnt been strong in the market and the yard form looks pretty indifferent post restart so small stake only.
