The history books I read suggest he was likely killed in the battle but his body was never identified ... and the Romans would have just loved to have paraded his body ... it's what they did.
People forget (or never knew) that we were "enslaved" too after slavery was abolished. Cotton mills used to use people for 60-80 hours per week, when they got paid their pittance the only place they could spend it was the company shop, oh, and they lived in company houses dependant on their job.
It's not a colour/race thing, it's a class thing that has only been beaten (reduced) by all people fighting together.
