I agree of course that sometimes people are accused falsely for monetary gain or 15 min of fame. But how many arrests for sexual assault/rape are there each year against footballers? 1? maybe 2? Can't imagine it's more than that. So it's not all the time, it's actually a very rare occurance.
Bramble may well be innocent. But if I was him (and thankfully I am not) after the first accusation I'd have assessed my lifestyle and wondered what it was I did that got me into a position where I could be accused of sexual assault without merit, and done whatever it was in my power to ensure I didn't get into that situation again. And if that means stopping attending all nighter drink/drug fuelled house parties with fame hungry women and men, or stopping clubbing 3 times a week, or the casual sleeping around, or changing some of my friends for better ones, or whatever else you want to add, I'd do whatever it took to preserve my reputation as a decent footballer and bloke.
