He looked terrific on the overlap last night, Mendy, but you could buy £25m wingers for that, because defender he ain't. That mix-up for Chelsea's first goal was all him - you could see Gundojhin (sp) wanted him nowhere near it, but he just had to interfere. But the second bit where Pulisic suckered him into a tackle was the mark of a rank bad defender: I played at full back, and you know if you have the pace of an opponent you just NEVER have to dive in. Think of how many times Virgil just shepherds players into having a wild shank at Allison from 30 yards because they know they can't outpace him and he's not going to ground. Still a class finish by Pulisic though. But without rubbing it in, even Moreno wouldn't have ****ed up like that. £50m+ for Mendy.... Undoubted as Pep's talents are, building a competent defence isn't one of them.
What confuses me with Pep and full backs is he buys them and then having seen them in pre season decides he doesn't rate them & they get sparse game time . long may it continue .
