Unfortunately I fully expect that around 15-20% of them will also cease to be required.

    Some grim times ahead gents.

Moggy's got his own agenda, so **** him. What he has done by making MPs vote at HOC is prevent vulnerable / shielding MPs from doing so and has just made the parliamentary process weaker.

Indeed, and companies will shed more jobs, other than those that aren't actually needed, just to cut their cloth.

They addressed that in fairness (not him though) as they’ve allowed the shielded to vote via proxy.

He had two prime motives for doing that
    1. To create more support for Johnson in the House, notably at PMQ’s
    2. He apparently felt they couldn’t control their back benchers adequately via the whips if they didn’t have them physically at Westminster..........

Already started seems like every day a major company is cutting staff
I suspect some of them are using the lockdown as an excuse to restructure

Know of someone whose firm is making every single employee re-apply for their job. At drastically reduced wages of course...

Very grateful to have secure employment at present tbh.

We’re primarily a consumer lead economy and the market will ultimately dictate just how bad it gets. Many businesses are hanging off making restructuring decisions until we can see what the ‘new normal’ looks like in their marketplaces. The extension of the furlough scheme has allowed these decisions to be largely put off until later in the summer, but it’s only delayed the inevitable imho.

No company ever needs an excuse to restructure tbh mate, so I don’t agree with that. I think some will maybe use this as an opportunity to lower wages and bonus schemes though, and as 2008 showed us, they’ll never come back to the same level for many.

That will leave a lot of empty office space .
Also it will effect the businesses that rely on the workers namely cafes and sandwiches shops .
I think it gonna be a brutal few years with the depth of what's to come .

Good cut costs for businesses, bulldoze office tower blocks, create more green space. As for cafes and sandwich shops, they will need to reinvent themselves and do home deliveries or encourage people to take an hour lunch break from the home office, with incentive vouchers.

It's not for everyone. I'm back pretty much full time now, only did one day at home this week and don't plan on doing any next.

I'd have to look for another job if I was told to do it permanently.

The converse argument is that it’ll also reduce congestion, reduce pollution and thus improve air quality, vastly improve people’s work / life balance and allow far more people the freedom to move away from the major conurbations. It was always going to happen eventually, it’s just been vastly speeded up by this pandemic.

I dont get your logic ?
If it's good that we are going to have brutal job cuts how does that help by putting green spaces ?
Reinvent to what ? If you suddenly had to spend the rest of your life working in an 8ft by 8ft bedroom it means you live and work in that home all the time .
Not meeting work friends and you ain't gonna be getting sandwiches and coffees delivered when you have a kitchen a few feet away <laugh>

My office is in a business park with 3 cafes and a gym. Coffee and sandwich vans tour it throughout the day.

All that is gone I reckon. An office of 80-100 people will be empty and the only bit that will be used in future will be the customer meeting rooms.

All of us were commuting 30-100 miles a day and none of us plan to return.

I doubt I'll ever get that luxury. Retirement age will probably be mid 80's by then and it'll be a ****ing miracle if I live to that age <laugh>

So people don't go to coffee shops when they have a kitchen a few feet away, K.

Maybe the coffee shop business is not as lucrative as I thought, or you're chatting utter bolloxs.
