Getting back on topic....

It seems there have been around 64,000 excess deaths since the coronavirus outbreak. Some encouragingly low numbers of cases and deaths over the last few days though.

Completely agree, I had the same argument about the Jimmy Savile memorials. The man donated money to charity, why shouldn't he be commemorated all over the county?
Cheers Tommo, my intention was not to stir the **** but to give another side of the argument. I wasn't condoning the slave trade. But just trying to show that all these protests for the lad who died are just an excuse for mayhem. Infact the police seem to be afraid to do anything that might be perceived as picking on so call minorities. <ok> Oh I can't wait for the footy to start up again.

Like the Hitler statue at the German Shepherd club? Or are those common in Ireland?
Sorry who was that directed at? Haven't a clue what you're talking about. Can you tell me why it's ok to have a memorial park in honour of a dead Black Panther, but all the Confed memorials have been hidden in museums. One rule for you loony lefties.<ok>

Hang on, let's not let the football distract us from this football forum :emoticon-0102-bigsm I agree about the mayhem though, it seems that whenever a well intentioned protest reaches a certain size (climate change, black lives matter, tuition fees etc)it inevitably attracts a certain more violent crowd.

<laugh>Blame lockdown for the lack of footy talk. As the mods on here will tell you, It's usually me who goes off subject all the time. Not always intended.

Ok, funny, point is how do you know what affiliations those who committed these criminal activities had?

Remember the good old days when football firms included scrappers who had no interest in football? They just showed up as they wanted to fight. Similar phenomenon.[/QUOTE
I get your point johnny but the thugs are the same over here and other protesters cheer them on.

History is there for a reason Jonny, a reminder not to make the mistakes of the past, the genercides, mass murder of Jews, Russians and things like slavery, if we don't teach youth about evil in the past, they have no respect for anything and damage things like war memorials.
Last yearwhile in Germany, I went to Dachau concentration camp, I didn't go because it was a nice tourist day out, I went to see what monsters, man can be to his fellow humans, and it reinforced to me, to make sure it never happens again. I may have it totally wrong but aren't you Jewish, do you wish to get rid of any trace of what Hitler did to your people, do you think we should cover it up ?. Slavery is a bad part of our history but it should be kept in the open for all to see.

Of course, but statues of him are probably not a good idea .

I was under the impression that Ireland sided/sympathized to some extent with Nazi Germany to some degree, am I mistaken?

Black Panthers were common criminals just as the KKK, skinheads and ultra rights are today!

Don’t deserve any positive recognition.

No “fine people” there!

That said, at least the panthers were on the right side of the issues of the day!

Sometimes groups are forced into paths of violence to achieve social justice. I lived through one of those situations too.

Hit the nail on the head there!

Opportunistic criminals grabbing the opportunity with all 12 fingers!

And their left hands too!
