Does anyone else wonder how some idiots actually get articles posted... http://www.fansonline.net/southampton/article.php?id=1062 Sorry if the link doesn't work I have written it out on my IPhone! Apparently we have gone stale and need to ring the changes? And apparently Lee Holmes should come in and replace Guly as he is absent for way too long, Guly has more talent in his toenail than Holmes will ever have, don't get me wrong i think he try's hard but he's bandy, not slow but not quick, deliveries are decent but is a one trick pony in bearing his man! Holmes was made to look good against preston! Angers me how some people are ringing for changes when we are top of the league with 1 loss and 1 defeat in 8 league games! Crazy stuff!
Here's your link: http://www.fansonline.net/southampton/article.php?id=1062 now working. Yes, I believe a facepalm might be an appropriate response to that article. Note: you may have to scroll down the page.
I'm not ringing for any changes but I from what I've seen on player, Holmes has some real quality. I believe a fair few believe he's unlucky not to have had a run out in the first team yet. However, we have this nice problem of having other performers playing well (Guly) and with perhaps more impact i.e. De Ridder.
Thanks for the link, i am maybe a little harsh on Holmes but he isn't Guly standard! If you watch Guly close he has so much talent and is frustrating to watch sometimes as he doesn't always do the easy things right, saying that he is a 70 minute man, bit like DC up front! I know it's just opinion but the best start to a season in 103 years does not scream " mix it up" in the team, it's a long season and we are going to need strength In our squad for possible injuries and suspensions but to change a winning team which is what we are is crazy! I am a huge fan of Morgan, have been ever since we bought him and I tipped him last season and this season to be 1 of our most crucial players but we are playing that well he can't even get in the team, I have often wondered how you could accomadate JC, DH and MS all in the centre as they are all class, it just isn't obvious! You have Chappers aswel who is no slouch! Nice dilemma for Adkins!
On the Holmes debate, Saints have clearly tried to keep the boy on the bus. It was nice to see him get an award for non-footballing activity last season, and is proof that Saints are trying to keep him part of the set up even if he has been unable to play. Holmes is a sad reminder of the potential pitfalls of being a pro player, as he came to us with one hell of a cv for a young lad. Portaloo may not have left much of a legacy, but he did bring in Morgan and Lee Holmes. No-one could have predicted the lad's subsequent problems. I compare no-one to Guly. He is an exceptional talent, and will take some shifting from the team. Like all gifted players he has poor days, but even on those he can suddenly pop up with a great goal or assist. So it is bound to be difficult for Holmes to get back in the starting 11, but he is good enough to be on the bench. As for the negative posters .. what can you say? The problem is, there is a fine line between prompting debate and being seen as negative. I'm sure NA will have learned lessons from Saturday, and I think the fan's view that we need to be aware of shortcomings going into a difficult run of games is perfectly valid. There are two problems. One is that it is easy for other fans to say that this is negative talk, the second is that we fans are only stating what I am sure is blindingly obvious to NA and his team. Good thread to start though. Brightens up the morning!
Anyone who is negative about the state of the club at this present time are failing to see the bigger picture. The club has just started the third year of a five year plan and stand proudly at the top of the Championship, playing a style of football that is not only entertaining but very effective too, it's light years away from where the club was just two years ago. I am one of Guly's biggest fans and he is probably the most talented member of the squad along with Adam Lallana and David Connolly. I think he is an obvious target for the moaners when things are not going our way because of his sometimes laid back and languid demeanour, but thankfully, the majority of Saints fans can see how valuable he is to the team.
I remember another player of whom the same could be said, and he was an absolute genius who could change a game in an instant with a piece of magic. Guly might drift in and out of games, but just like MLT, when he is focussed he can be brillliant. Besides, "drifting out of a game" is often another way of avoiding being marked closely.
Just the old trick of saying something controversial/stupid to prompt a reaction from people get more visitors to that website.... and it's worked. The Ugly inside have been doing it for years, Nick posts something stupid nearly everyday, most of it to wind people up.
My view thus is that he has an opinion but thus he is wrong. It was a frustrating read as the word 'thus' was appearing all over the place trying to sound intelligent.
There is a whole lot of "thus" in the article! I normally respect people's opinion even if I think they are wrong but I was having doubts whether the writer of this article was a saints fan never-mind had he seen the team play this season?
flair players like guly can drift out of games, esp if stuck on the wing. in my opinion guly is best for 45 mins- send him out to express himself, then change at half time- but with whom, as i thought holmes was best on the left, so for me the knight is the better option
Why is De ridder not being played?! I would like to see him given a proper chance i rate Guly but he can go missing somtimes however he is the kind of player who could bag himself a goal if given the chance.
Just to back up your theory of Nicks stupid articles here is another - http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/fb_news.php?storyid=14190
Yep. We have not proved our championship credentials until we win every remaining game, the FA cup, the champions league (its our stupid fault we're not there already) etc etc
I really rate Holmes but I think Guly has been playing well this season. If he drifts out of the game in the second half, he will be taken off like he has this season. Fox has been very good IMO so even if Harding is fit, he deserves a run in the team. Finally, Hammond has been excellent this season as has our other 3 centre-mids, so I would still keep with Hammond and Cork if we stay 4-4-2. I think the only reason we would change the team is if we change our formation.
