Good news from France as the number who have died in the last 24 hours as a result of the virus was down to 13. There had been a worry that it could increase after some of the lockdown measures were lifted, but it seems to be under control. The government and advisors seem to agree about the careful relaxation that is underway, and there are none of the disputes as seen in the UK. I believe it is to do with honesty, something that seems to be a problem for the Johnson/Cummings leadership.

Poor old Matty, he had to admit that there would be no foreign holidays this year. Still good news for SH. A camping holiday in Costa del Clacton might be possible later.

I think the news emboldened Nicola Sturgeon though - for weeks she has been facing a hostile press on a daily basis, and a hostile Tory party in parliament, without losing her composure. This afternoon she went on the attack after an Express journalist asked her to comment on Tory demands for Scotland's CMO to resign - didn't lose her composure, but put the Tories firmly in their place -

Living where I do, and reading the ordinary public response from all around Europe about leaders when they make public statements, there is no doubt about the high regard that they have for Scotland's First Minister. Nearly everyone of the EU leaders get some praise with the responsible way that they have tackled this crisis, although admissions of what they got wrong. Of course there is an exception, and le pitre or bouffon is that exception. Did people actually vote for this clown? Quite a common question. It is embarrassing if you get associated with him in everyday conversation, and most of us can only say, nothing to do with me.

Johnson has lost approval of the way that he is handling the crisis at record levels, so I wouldn't try to divert that fact away. The three countries where approval of the leadership is at its lowest are, Mexico, UK, and USA. We are not talking about popularity SH. This is about populations approval of the way that their governments have handled the crisis. Mexico and the UK are bottom of the approval list with the USA only just above them. Not surprisingly the country to come out best has been New Zealand that acted immediately when it was warned what was coming. Do you dispute that the Labour PM of New Zealand is probably the leader who is coming out of this with more credit than Johnson?

This is all about governments responding to a crisis. Whoever might lead them will have an effect obviously, but when you have a leader of a government such as seen in New Zealand who has received universal acclaim, and someone in the UK who is attracting universal scorn, then it is little wonder which country comes out best. No one expects a single person to do everything within a government, but to provide leadership is the job of the person at the top. With the failure of the UK government to get on top of the problem, it can only be assumed that the leadership has been useless.

You are still getting it wrong. This is about how people in countries see the governments response to the crisis. Nothing to do with a view of an individual, but is the government getting it right. Which country has a larger death toll, France or the UK? This is what people are looking at because it is simple to compare the result of the actions taken.

Exactly, I was detailing the French public's reaction to leadership and they obviously think your President has failed them as nearly two thirds of the public disapprove. Surely you remember the recent demonstrations against his failure to provide sufficient PPE?

You have clearly not listened to the medical experts who say it is a mistake to make crude comparisons simply on death numbers, a whole host of variables are required to be taken into account. It is also far too early as this pandemic is far from over at the moment.

If we were talking about unemployment figures and a Socialist government then you would be well prepared to use numbers to support your argument.

So around 64,000 excess deaths in the UK as collected by the ONS. The numbers from them and the ones in the FT are converging. No doubt SH will want to stick his head in the sand and say somewhere else is worse.
