a lot of the stuff available in MARCH was outdated and did not conform and quantities of less than 1 tonnes was available. you could buy 12,000 facemasks /gloves [in 3 forms and all sizes ] and also plastic face shields 12,000 tie on face masks would set you back £3960: 12000 gloves 6000 pairs £1900.00 best /£1700 lower …. now prices are 50 pairs gloves =£12 [best Q ]
COUNTRIES DO NOT BUY a tonne or so they buy in 10 tonne or more lots ….

JGF all of our products had and have all of the necessary certification, we regularly refuse product that does not meet the correct standards and we were dealing in £millions, whole plane loads 6 million masks at a time
 
Here’s what I concluded from this thread.
All the Boris lovers won’t admit the fact that we’re the 4th highest in the world of deaths per 1m in population. Behind San Marino, Belgium and Andorra. So out of the power nations that makes us the highest.
So let’s blame it on London being over populated. And even worse let’s compare Boris to Corbyn.

Why can’t everyone admit, we sent our PPE to help China blindly thinking it’s ok that virus won’t come here, whilst allowing flights in from the areas suffering badly with it. Holding Cheltenham festival and letting in Madrid fans whilst their country was locking down.

And to top it all, we’ve basically said **** it let’s all go to the beach. Just make sure you stay 2m away from each other. But if you pop round your girlfriends for a bunk up you can get arrested.


Plus no one wants us to visit their country.

Good God, this is a war against a killer virus that strikes all people, it couldn't give a **** of what, who you are or where you exist, white or black, gay or straight, male or female, old or young,left or right it just wants to devour you.

It's a stranger in our midst, invisible, a killer all nations are trying to identify.

Why are we trying to score stupid points off of each other, it's ignorance and stupidity,it's rediculous for one section of humanity to say we are better at it than the other, we are all in the same punch up, the killer disease.

If you people and we recognise who you are just want to blame, beat each other up, just wait a while, you will have time, stop boring us, the rest of us just want to survive and feel the warmth of our families, friends and the sun.

The sooner the better and we can only achieve this by supporting each other, please keep safe.

I vote Labour

The PPE issue is nuanced. Not all PPE meets standards and is appropriate for use. I wear two types of face mask and wear goggles/face shields. The UK did not have enough PPE for varying means of protection and control, and those two again are not the same.

Labour Amelia Dodds a leading front bencher felt the Conservatives measures were going too far then later agreed that measure were correct - Labour's position was anything but unequivocal.

In my workplace infection control information from virologists (SAGE) changed weekly sometimes in hours. There was no clear strategy as scientists did not understand the virus itself. Its 20 times more infectious than flu and new. That is the territory. Nationally we could not be ready for this.

We've haven't gone **** it .. Millions upon millions have not.

I with hindsight feel lockdown was not quick enough, hard enough and feel it should not be eased now .. But those views should be kept for later, Inquiries can deal with them. Now is the time for resolve, that staying alert not spreading bullshit or protesting in herds like giant petri dishes that could infect/re-infect further the Country.

I agree with this and like you say with hindsight, things could have been done different...but even the scientists were unaware 100% of the correct strategy to be taken.........just annoys the hell out of me how some people feel they knew what was required, when the right time to take action and how......experts all of a sudden after the event...
Yes, maybe we could have locked down earlier and for longer, but balancing the deaths caused by domestic violence, lack of Cancer treatments, suicides due to fear of losing jobs and businesses etc were needed to be taken into consideration..
I'm not a Labour voter, so it's refreshing to hear, not everyone is intent to knock everything the government has been doing in these unprecedented times. the whole thing has been a colossal challenge .

WDR 6mill is a drop in the ocean.. one .gov would order multiples of 00's millions in 1 shipment, order /shipment would likely be per week and from more than 1 supplier to be fair even in china gross manufacture of PPE was likely only possible to supply a resupply of what was currently in use the previous [to covid] 12 month's.. suddenly 1 billion Chinese wanted PPE.. and would likely have panic bought like some erjits in the UK [ and elsewhere ] did with toilet rolls spaghetti and rice …
the Chinese replaced what we sent them ...probably newer stuff ….
your company likely paid reasonably quick less than a month … I know from experience the .gov can take up to 4 months to pay! [ probably the same for most other governments! ]
 
nhs supply chain .. storage … NHS HAVE A NUMBER of regional facilities they are massive multi rack warehouses often 6+ tiers high each bay takes 2x or 3 times 40" x 48 "pallets with a height not exceeding 48" . A NEW facility was is being built at Bury st Edmunds [LOWESTOFT not far away.] 150k sq feet …. that's a few billion items of "stock" probably big enough to store 20 billion face masks and same number of gloves! plus a few bandages and plasters! NHS DEPOTS WILL NOT BE SHORT OF AND HAVE NEVER BEEN SHORT OF STORAGE ……..
one thing people expected was you phone up a mask supplier [ PPE] and the order is ready for next day delivery! 2 ways to get from China to UK … container or by plane a container can carry up to 28 tonnes a plane less than 10 tonne? one takes a couple weeks the other a few hours.
NHS HAS never been short of storage space [ bear in mind it is not just PPE these warehouses store ] not urgent can be left in containers [ compact short term storage maybe a week ? ] our nearest NHS facility is Bridgwater

Somewhat predictably, the Germans seemed to get their own house in order very quickly, and they haven't seen the colossal death toll that we and others have had.
The way things are going Brazil will be overtaking us pretty soon with over 1,000 deaths per day at the moment, not that it's anything to be proud of however you look at it.

But we are where we are and all we can do is look forward to better days to come. Hopefully.

that's only 1000 a day that come from the biggest cities like to be more like 2000+ as some of the villages in northern [ nw] area are just burying their dead!

You have to hand it to the Germans....very methodical in most things they do,from building quality cars to reliable domestic appliances etc....National football team whom I would never rule out of winning a major tournament..sometimes we should swallow our pride and learn things from them!!
