I would take an FA Cup win. The lower divisions are more fun these days. Ok, it’s always best to see our club in the top division, but the cup win lasts forever.

Similar Rob. I'm reconciled to relegation now, but to win the FA Cup would be a real boost to morale and one for the trophy case. I also don't think that relegation would mean years in the wilderness like Wigan and Portsmouth, as that is exactly what we've prepared against with the self financing model.

It was a hypothetical Rick .

We are not winning the F.A cup , the question posed was would you scarifice a few years of lower league football for the FA cup ?

Winning the cup wouldn't undo all the work the management team put in or lessen our chances of future success .

It was hypothetical, I don't think we are going to win the cup , BUT would you take 10 years of Wigan/Portsmouth type struggling for some proper silverware?

A first F.A cup would be incredible.

I guess it really depends, how deep in the mire we would find ourselves?
I'd be tempted to trade a cup win and 10 years in shizen for yoyoing. But how deep is the shizen to get? Are we to plummet to lge 1, stay there for 3-4 or 8yrs and even lose to the binners? If you're saying 10 yrs of struggle, does this mean we come back to the PL in the 11th or 12th? Do we have the odd promotion to the champ from lge 1 to keep it interesting, or just languish in the 3rd tier? If we did that perhaps we end up with no club at all, because our most wonderful owners can't seemingly afford a PL or champioonship side, so a lge 1 side with no real TV money.

The flip side is how good are the yoyo years? Is it 5 up, 5 down? 5 highs tempered by lows. Do we win the Champ 5 times, scrape through the playoffs in 6th each season, Still some wembley wins in that scenario! If so I think I'd be a bit frustrated at our inability to stay up. If it's bounce back next season and have a prelonged stay, even troubling the top half of the table, then I think the finances, the football and the ever improving playing squad would justify that choice, might even get a cup run or two from there. But More down than up in the yoyoing, saying bye to Webber and Farke without being an established Pl side, and the cup dependant on how low we go looks more appealing.

So if you're telling me I can pick between the two paths. Surely I can pick the rest.
I'd take a cup win, but not this year, I'd lose to United, get promoted next season, stay up for the rest of the decade and win both the FA cup, League cup and the UEFA cup as we build and improve.

Bah!

It should have been a straightforward question like .

Would you chop off a finger for £1m ?

Before you answer I don't actually have a million pounds to give you and I'm not threatening to cut off your finger .

Just to be clear <rofl>

But that isn't entirely straight forward either. Is it a surgeons scalpel or a blunt and rusty blade dipped in ebola? Does the million come in one hit? is the tax paid?
All that before we even start talking about which finger!

Bah!

The point I was attempting to make is in 118 years we haven't won an FA cup and the top 6 usually win it , we are 2 gamrs away from a final and pretty nailed on to go down now.

To see us win an FA cup in my lifetime would be more special than the umpteen promotions and relegations that we have had.

If we as fans don't care about the cups because that's not going to keep us afloat we may as well rest our first team and concentrate on the League .

Watching Watford get humiliated last season was quite funny but I would still like to see us win some proper Silverware given the choice , obviously an unlikely win would not devalue our chances of promotion next season but that was the hypothetical question posed.
