Curious to see no thread regarding last night's show at the Mayfair, especially after The Echo over-stating Le Tissier's comments about Cortese. Sometimes wish Le Tiss would leave his comments to private conversations as the press will only use any remarks to rock the boat. I quite enjoyed the evening but felt that the format of the show needed some work as some of the things such as the quiz using musical instruments a buzzers were a bit dire. Mike Osman proved to be quite good with the impressions and one-liners but the un-PC stand-up routine seems to come from the 1970's. The clips and out-takes were pretty risable and only served to show just how superior the BBC is with their football coverage than Sky's more buffoonish attempts. Don't find Chris Kamara funny , just amateur.

The evening was at it's best when the format opened up to questions from the audience and it was a shame that they didn't go with this from the off. Charlie Nicolas seemed to have the best football knowledge but I felt Phil Thompson didn't offer much insight into the game. Personally, I would felt Paul Merson was worth the money alone - a great story teller and some pretty salient comments, even if I don't agree that Harry Redknapp should be the next England manager. (With the exception of the Scot, Sir Alex, any homegrown manager can't be trusted at that level and a foriegn coach is a prerequsite. Capello's successor will have to come from Europe if the national squad is to perform above expectations on the world stage.) No surprises with Redknapp's lack of affection for Pompey either as I think the man is only motivated by £££ and not any loyalty.

I thought it was a great evening and I agree that Paul Merson was absolutely brilliant! I wish I had 20 quid in my pocket for that doodle of a house! <laugh>

Just that pathetic joke about Le Tiss paying for his ticket put a dampner on it for me. I think they're being really childish about the situation and embarrassing themselves tbh.

If Roy Hodgson isn't the next England manager then someone has cocked up, only man with the experience.

To be honest I didn't even know there was something going on down at the mayflower. I truly am getting a bit fed up with the sniping at Cortese about having to pay for his bloody tickets to a match. When Brial O'neil was living opposite me he never ever mentioned that he didn't have to pay for his tickets, in fact it was the reverse. He sometimes used to say he would like to go down to see a particular game "but I couldn't get tickets" not even for myself was his reply. apparently they would go down in some sort of group. He certainly didn't hint that he didn't have to pay for them. Just that there was none available.....whatever that meant. Either way I wish they would stop going on about how they can't get in free. Perhaps it was a good job Letiss did not get the job of chairman after all........

i don't think hodgson would be a very good england manager, he seems to be much better at clubs with low expectations, and i don't think he would handle the pressure

Hodgson did well when he was manager of switzerland. To be fair at Liverpool he was doomed from the start with a very poor team inherited from boring Benitez and the fans weren't prepared to give him the time. I would suggest a manager that has already managed teams internationally and in tournaments plus has experience of managing a huge side in Inter is more than qwualified rather than twitchy who is the loudest voice on the 'harry for england manager' gravy train.

It was hardly a very poor team. 8 of the 11 who pushed Man Utd so close the title only a couple of years earlier were still there. And of the 3 changes, Johnson was arguably an improvement on Arbeloa. Although I don't rate either.

It was however a very small squad. There wasn't a lot of depth to it. And it an attempt to bulk up the size of the squad, Roy brought in nothing but rubbish - Meireles excepted. Cole, Koncheskey, Poulsen, Jones all complete and utter rubbish.

Yes a bit like the pub landlord giving free drinks to all his mates and then ending up bankrupt.
