What was going on in the Jimmy Seed Stand on Saturday?

They split the stand, to allow home fans in, with all the added police and steward expense, and the home fans all sat on the far East side of the stand, furthest from the away fans.
Then the Charlton fans moved towards the front and the middle.
Then the Police (?) moved them back to where they had been, i.e. further from the away fans.
Then the Police moved them out completely (to where?) and the Chesterfield fans were allowed to then use the facilities on both sides.

All this for about 20 supporters!
 
Once they were moved from the Jimmy Seed stand they were all put in the East stand (the end closest to the Jimmy Seed stand in the block which was practically empty). Firstly, why on earth were they sold tickets in the Jimmy Seed stand in the first place considering there was plenty of seats remaining in all other corners of the stadiums. Secondly (like you said) why were they moved out of the stand, and thirdly, if there was a goal scored whilst they were being relocated to another stand, shouldn't they be entitled to some sort of refund (all right we didnt score, but I still would have been annoyed at the inconvenience they had caused).

We did score, Johnnie Jackson's goal went in just after all the furore. At least I think, not being able to see them re-enter the ground. It was another poorly stewarded South Stand moment. A bunch of Kids get tickets in the Seed so they can effectively banter at the Chesterfield fans. Banter being all it was too. It looked to me like they were told they can use the whole stand if they like, they moved, then stewards hot there normal power trip forcing them to come away from the 8 seat stantion between them and the spireites, who didn't blink an eye at the bunch of 17 year olds being vaguely lairy like geezers(embarrassing frankly). Then they decide to kick them out, not withstanding that the one fella they decide to forcefully remove they then drag him through the Chesterfield fans!(again, not that they cared or even realised the kids were pretty much there)

All of this 5 minutes before half time, they could have waited to move them on then. Ridiculous. Everybody said I was bias after the treated the few Exeter fans got a couple weeks ago, but it is quite frankly stupidity from our South Stand team. There was enough stewarding up there that if they wanted to add that separation beyond that that's already there, they could have just sat down the netting in between them? Poor and lazy.
 
That is true actually, the goal was soon after, but I remember looking over to the East and seeing them all walking down the stairs - about half of them were still on the stairs when the goal went in.

Really poor planning by the club and stewards, I agree the Chesterfield fans didn't even seem to be paying them much attention <laugh>
 
The number of Stewards and Police down that end must have cost us a fortune, and in order to NEED the extra home seating, we would have to sell at least 25000 tickets, surely they should have only have sold these if the other areas were sold out?

I'd forgotten about the Charlton fan carried out through the away section of the stand, that must have cheered a few people there up!

Believe me they were paying attention, think that's why the few Charlton fans in that section were moved out before things started to get too hot.
 
So on saturday i went to the ticket office offered a seat in the South Stand (Row N Seat 10), pressume the North was Sold Out... Was quite kooshty at 1st was only a handful of us had our own bar etc for about 50of us lol Stewards asked us to remain in our seats right in the corner basically behind the bigscreen, Soon as the whistle went we all moved into the middle bit, not really paying attention to the away fans at 1st then they was hurling some abuse so we gave it back then wen the goal went in we rushed over near them (had no intensions of jumping into there end) was heat of the moment celebrating in there face! come to the 20min mark we was moved back into the small bit in the corner, we slowly moved back into the middle when about 100+++?? Stewards forced us back out the South Stand and sat in the East Stand which indeed did make all of us miss the 2nd goal!!! Which did really *%** us off!! Why sell us tickets there in the 1st place?? It was all banter between us 50 odd?? and a handful of the Chesterfield fans its not like it was Charlton v Palace! The way the Stewards handled the situation and the way they spoke to us was shocking! Other then that and missing the 2nd goal i thought we played brilliantly in the 1st half, could of easily been 5or6 at half time, 2nd half was a struggle front two went out the game and there 1st touches was terrible needed the change and it work Kerm played great when he come on, back 4 was solid all game! Chesterfield didnt really pose much of a threat in my eyes

Roll on MK Dons tomorrow night! Going for a 3-2 win for us Addicks!!

Glad to hear it from you're side ForEver, interesting to hear there was some hostility, but still not any different from any other game in the entire of football. It looked very much over the top.

If I were you I'd make a complaint about the stewarding, in the past week we've already had two threads on here about the poor standards of stewarding (in the south stand mainly), really is quite embarrassing and its sad to think opposition fans (and indeed non-regular home fans) may rate The Valley as a bad day out due to aggressive/poor standard stewards.
 
I was sat with the Academy players on Saturday and was surprised at their lack of knowledge. They were having a conversation about Jimmy Seed. They clearly didn't know who this legend was with his name emblazzed across the face of the South Stand, so, I joined in the conversation to bring them up to speed. Now Charlton you really should offer these youngsters an historical insight into the club, after all they are the future and possibily legends in their own right and one day mybe part of our great history.
 
Kerpowell you make a very good point, I honestly believe new signings and youth players should be educated on our club history prior to signing. We are a club with a very rich, proud history and everyone associated with the club should know this, afterall how else can they really appreciate how much us fans want promotion, where we want to be and what we expect of them as players.
 
Curbs used to show a club DVD of where we were in the past and getting back to The Valley etc I remember reading in his book how when he wanted to sign Di Canio he jumped the fence as Di Canio wasn't home and posted the DVD through his letterbox along with a note

maybe something to raise on the next Charlton Live show, it may get relayed back to management?

Yes I indeed was the Club DVD whilst Curbs was in charge, though the incident with Di Canio's letterbox is one that I want to forget ....

Hmm, to be honest was not aware of that story myself. The history of our club is important as is the future.
