So the neutral venues idea may not go ahead instead reverting to proper home and away games, good. I'm not sure how the bottom clubs can claim they miss out on (massive) advantage of playing at home if neutral venues went ahead when they've all won a whopping 4 games at home all season.
They can't thats the thing. No crowds at home grounds makes them vitrually neutral anyway, after all a pitch is a pitch. They're all moaning cause they don't want to play the rest of the season. If it goes unfinished they can all claim they might have avoided relegation had they played the games, which of course they don't actually want to play cause then 3 of them would have to be relegated. If they managed to get the season voided, which is what they really want, they all get to stay where they are. Karen Brady was very quick to try that one out.
I don't understand why they don't want to play in a league they want to stay in. If this was a 29 game season - 3 teams are being relegated. If this is to be a 38 game season - 3 teams are being relegated.
Currently they can claim that no-one should be relegated as the season isn't finished and that any of them 'Could' escape relegation with the games left. Therefore it's 'unfair' to relegate the 3 that currently occupy the relegation spots. If they have to play the remaining games, 3 will have to be relegated. So they argue for No relegation or Null and void to avoid any of them getting relegated.
The season is finished when the PL say it's finished. That could be as it stands or if it's played out, either way there will be relegations, the FA have a veto on relegation which they have confirmed will happen.
Legally that might be a problem, Clubs will argue for loss of status and revenue if they are relegated. The idea that its an 'unfair' decision to relegate without teams being allowed to play all the games. In past seasons we've seen team manage to stay up on the last day and put a good enough run together with less than 10 games to go.
See above. Legal action will be taken. Also don't clubs get a vote on actions the PL wants to take. If a number vote against proposed PL relegations... who knows what will happen.
will make teams think twice about saving their winning run for the last 10 games of the season going forward then. they should have won a few more back in 2019 and wouldn’t be in this predicament.
He’s reported as having told the PL clubs that on Monday, and what? It’s not his call, despite the grandstanding. There’s no way the PL will collectively vote for a final league solution that includes relegation, that’s merely some form of calculation based on 29 games, won’t happen. They’ll play the games out, but if for whatever reason that doesn’t complete, they won’t relegate, unless it’s already a mathematical certainty.
That feels like sarcasm. The nature of a top to bottom league means someone is always going to be in their current situation.
At the start of the season all clubs agree to the PL rules which include declaring champions and relegation. The only contentious point would be disputing when the season ends which, given the circumstances, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
But they agreed to those rules based on a 38 game season. Cut it short and clubs suddenly do have a leg to stand on. They can argue on the 'What if....?' factor FA has no say in the PL, they don't run it The only fair outcome of the season is to play the games, in the current climate, behind closed doors. Whether that be a neutral venues or empty stadiums. Any club that argues against that is arguing because they have something to lose by all the games being played.
They agree to a 38 game season, not a 28/29 game one. The Championship won’t complete if the PL can’t, so the idea that PL clubs could be relegated without completing the season and replaced with clubs who’d guaranteed themselves nothing at the point the game was stopped, is a position that has more holes than a Swiss cheese. It simply won’t happen.
To be fair they agree to those rules on the basis that everyone plays each other home and away. If there's ambiguity there it's not beyond clubs to argue that it should apply elsewhere too.
Nulling and Voiding is also unfair. It punishes teams that have had good seasons and will miss out on things. Like ourselves, or Sheffield United who could have ended up in Europe (Although European football isn't going to be happening next year if we're being honest) Play the Damned games is what I say.
