Settled down to watch the Euros on ITV4 earlier...all the build up. Keegan and Ferguson discussing outrageous earnings from the tournament. Stanley Matthews popped up..unpolished segments with Shearer and G.Neville..

Opening ceremony.. F**k me, a young Kasper Shmeichel as mascot!

Sir Les not playing. Forgot he was PFA player of the year. I got upset again he wasn't picked.

Scrappy game. Bit of gazza magic. Scuffed shots. Its a draw.

Loved it.

Nothing else to discuss footie wise and Euro 96 being replayed. Might as well have a match day thread to discuss!

Opening game was a duffer, the following weekend it really took off when we stuffed the Jocks with Gazza's brilliant goal. In the current climate that seems a lifetime away...

England vs Scotland up on 17th May at 6.45 on ITV4

Those with Itv hub ( whats that? ) can see all the matches other than England before that.

Went to all the England game that tournament as at the time I was in the 200 England fans in the travel club. Got 4 tickets for each match and proud to say gave them to my mates at cost price.
Was very tempted when one of my dads mates offered me a grand a piece for the Germany Semis.....

I was living in London at the time but remember very little about the tournament apart from England V Scotland. I lived in Kilburn and I remember seeing various groups of fans either heading to Wembley or heading to other parts of the country via the M1. Ireland were beaten by Holland in a play off at Anfield which was hugely disappointing, that's probably the reason I remember so little about it.

Who was going to the Euros this Summer before they got called off? I had 2 tickets for each of the 4 games that were due to take place in Dublin, 3 group games and one round of 16 game. Had to sell them back to Uefa the other day as I need the money. Had the makings of potentially a great tournament for England with almost every game at Wembley.

Despite having regularly gone to England matches there was virtually no chance of getting any tickets in the tournament as UEFA were basically pricing those who could get them out of the market. Unless you were in the travellers club or whatever the FA call it you could only go through UEFA and prices were ridiculous. I'll bet you got them much cheaper from Ireland...

We bought a package which gave us a pile of group games, then matches all the way up to the final. We had four tickets for each game, but due to work, I could only do the group phase so another family member took over. Think it worked out about £20 a game if I remember - I'll see if I've still got the tickets, I've definately got the programmes which I'll dig out later

I was quoting this year's tournament prices, f*ck me if it were £20 a game this year we'd have been flattened in the stampede... <laugh>

The tickets are the same price no matter where you got them. There are categories A, B, C AND D. I had 10 category A tickets which cost 185 euros each. Those tickets will go back and will be available for resale on the ticket portal. If you want tickets, register on the UEFA2020 website and you might get some returned tickets. The original application for tickets was open to people from all over Europe. The tickets I had were for group E which includes Spain, Sweden and Poland. The play off winner will also go into that group. I also had 2 tickets for the round of 16 game which includes the group winner from England's group. Those 2 tickets go back into the pot and are available for somebody else to buy.

I was only six so 98 was the first tournament I really remember. Really enjoyed the 20 minutes or so I watched yesterday just for how amateur it all seems. Jack Charlton always seems like he’s about to say something deeply xenophobic.

Barely 2 goals per game on average at Euro 96 and stadiums nowhere near full even for Scotland’s games. Were the tickets for the less glamorous games expensive or were people just not that arsed when England weren’t involved?

For a family with the two grandsons for the England games the prices were just too much. You can guarantee there would be packages available at grossly inflated prices as well.

Probably OK for single fans to buy as you have but youngsters who have a real interest in the game would need wealthy parents. Hope you're keeping well btw...
