Talking to sis the other day and she was explaining to me what's going on with the masks at hers and other local hospitals.

Each make and design of mask had to be tested on each member of staff before use to ensure an airtight fit, some masks don't fit certain people so they usually have 2 makes to ensure everyone had one they can use. Once a mask is used for testing for it has to be disposed of.

Every delivery they currently recieve is a different make from the last, they are on their sixth make and with 200 staff using these masks it's meaning 200 of each delivery effectively go straight in bin.

They are also finding that they are running out of masks for some staff when the ones they have in stock don't fit, so it's an ongoing ring around between hospitals to do swaps.

surely that problem always exists then ?

not being funny but i don't actually buy that . One obvious thought is everyone are being a lot more careful that the fit is exactly right atm .

I didn't even know the mask had to be airtight, I thought it was just a standard mask, that was to prevent you from spreading the germs. Other than in an ICU where yes, you would require a different type of mask.

My sister is having to do the fitting, these are the F95 masks that have to be used on covid19 wards and for all operations at the moment.
